Didn't Ishmael teach feeding his people who was the same as Isaac and it was the ones who were not flowing that path they consumed.. if you look at the text Ishmael was archangel Michael who stood before the father in a different time each wanting to feed Isaac trumped Ishmael. Thus not being better than him I guess what I'm trying to say is feed your family if their happy healthy beings the world's fire is as hot as it will be

War is a sin, on a global level, to describe the majority opinion.

If you want to find every holy book and read them they all work out to be glorified sex novels saying it's bad don't do it yet every person in the books commits some act of sin and are deemed good holy or and idle for the future. If you want tok be bad be bad.. a while chain and handcuffs are fine in moderation.

Such a pity then that in the last World War, and no doubt in all wars, both sides believed that God was 'on their side' - as if God would take 'sides' in such things! If this mythical being really did exist she would be pulling her hair out in despair at the way humans have been behaving.

Fortunately, there is no such thing as 'God' the phenomenon is just thoughts in the minds of those who believe - after all, there are so many different deities. If there was only 'One God' then everyone worldwide would agree what this being is and all would believe in the same being. In fact, different cultures believe in different Gods, some believe there are many Gods and some believe there is only one of them.

No point in quoting the bible to prove anything, as so many believers do. They quote from the bible as if mere quotation were enough to prove the point. It isn't. Best to stick with reality, quoting myths doesn't help the discussion.

Last I heard, the people who believe in sin, do think that sex outside of marriage is one.

Each to their own.

Hello my good friend! Yes you're right (as usual). For me, it's more about belief in sin, it's about belief and trust in God's word and my personal relationship with my heavenly Father. Sin is only one aspect of that, there is so much more than that IMO. My faith defines me and living in obedience is important. Am I absolutely faithful, sinless?? Of course not, however learning about and practicing forgiveness from God and with others I honestly feel has made me a better human being. That's what works and is right for me.

Yes it is. Throughout our life, we are constantly focused with making choices/decisions. What process we use in making those decisions is a huge part of not just what defines us but the direction our life takes. I have asked and heard other people ask why did you do what and when someone says "I don't know" which surprisingly is an all too common answer. It's not really true, because people know what they were thinking when a choice/decision comes up, it could be either they don't want to acknowledge or just felt like they think they reacted with no conscious thought, which is factually not possible. I know why I do that I do and why I did what I did, whether I had thought it out at the time. In realizing this, it's made a tremendous difference in my life. It sounds so simple and so basic, but honestly it does involve a focused effort.

Sin is only a 'sin' if you believe in that sort of thing. If you don't have these beliefs then there is no such thing as sin. Instead, use your own internal moral code and do as you wish, without needing to be told what to do. Just do what you know is right and don't do what you know is wrong. No need for religious people to tell you what to do. Adults don't need telling, common sense is all you need.

This is an interesting idea. I am curious if you think laws are examples of telling what to do? If so, do you feel they are useless and that natural knowledge of right and wrong should be enough?

I can agree that our perception is our reality. But might truth be truth regardless whether we believe it or not?

There is international law - lawful
Corporate government constitutional law - legal
all state and regional and local laws come under legal.
Commercial law; Uniform Commercial Code; Admiralty Law
Various others like Tort Law, Common Law

Then there are religious, sporting, and other club laws, which only apply if you belong to that organisation/club group.

Sin is a requirement of belief in Abrahamic religious beliefs.
If you can't blame the bogeyman made you do it, you have to blame yourself = sin. You did it you bad person, so you are one of those. A sinner.

Anything sinful to a christian is OK to anyone else, if it is not illegal or unlawful. Look at the rule book.

Unmarried sex may be sinful to a 'believer', and fine to everyone else unless some 'government' law or statute prohibits PERSONS from doing it by law, bylaw, or regulation.

Non-religious people see religious laws as not applying to them, thus sin doesn't matter or exist if you don't believe in it.

But morality and consideration and fair dealing for mutual benefit should be freely observed and used, without the need of threats and name calling and lightning bolts from on high, and eternal damnation in fiery pits.

Just be nice, and don't be a dick.
Don't do anything to anyone else that you wouldn't want done to you.
And observe and follow the laws of the land.
If they say unwed fornication is illegal, don't get caught.

Was it a sin to watch millions of Jews burn to death? Was it a sin to see a plane hit the tower, but too inept to stop the 2nd plane? Was it a sin to let Adam Lanza shoot 20 school kids and 7 teachers?...why did this figment not perform his FIRST and only miracle by giving Adam a heart attack after ONE child was killed???? the figment made the earth?..but unable to stop a tsunami before 24.000 Japanese drowned???? GET REAL PEOPLE!!!!!!!

notbeold has given the perfect reply to msharmony, I couldn't put it better myself. There are laws made by governments which you should obey, or don't get caught if you choose to break them. They apply to everyone living under that jurisdiction.

Then there are rules made by organisations you choose to join. When you join a club you are likely to be given your copy of the Rule Book. Failure to obey the rules could result in you being refused membership.

If you belong to a faith group they use the word 'sin' to describe an activity that is against their laws. There is no requirement for anyone who is not a member of that faith group to obey any of their laws.

In answer to mike randell, yes those things are sins - IF you are a believer. If not, they are terrible things to do that offend the moral code of people like me.

And, as he says, if the 'God' who loves each and every human being chooses not to stop that dreadful tsunami, then I for one have no interest in any faith.

Laws are indeed examples of governments (etc) telling us what to do. If you break one of these laws and are not caught there are no further consequences. If you're caught you get an appropriate punishment. They're not necessarily useless, but how many times have you exceeded the speed limit on a straight road in good weather with nobody else around? In that specific situation you might feel that law is useless. No consequences if you're not caught, but....

Natural knowledge would say you don't drive at a completely reckless speed, 200mph in your new Ferari would be reckless on any public road.

And yes, truth is truth, regardless of belief. If you choose to believe that the moon is made of green cheese that doesn't change what it is really made of. That is just your perception. Believers in some sort of faith are people who cannot accept that we are just an advanced type of animal and that when we die there is simply nothing else. Without meaning to be rude, I do feel it is human arrogance about us being in some way 'special' that has created the idea of supernatural beings associated with some form of life after death. Belief in those fairy tales doesn't make them true. For me, truth lies in scientifically proven peer-reviewed theories that over time become accepted as fact. The moon is NOT made of green cheese!
