I'm about 60 miles from NOLA.
In my town, there are clubs, dance halls and bars.
What amazes me, there are no dedicated "Blues Joints".
60 Miles from NOLA (Highway driving), you would think there would at least be some blues bars?
No, all is country or rock.
Don't get me wrong, you can pick up a date at either but being so close to NOLA you would think there would be at least ONE blues bar?
Nothing!
We have '100 Men Hall' which has blues bands every once in awhile but that is not the same as a "Blues Bar"
I have considered opening a "Blues Bar" but the absence is significant.
Where are the "Blues Bars"?
In NY, PA and MO we had free concerts in the park.
This allowed no-name bands to 'get out there" so they might get "discovered".
Nothing!
Factors:
1 KATRINA: Hurricane Katrina eliminated many small businesses.
2. Is there an ordinance? Perhaps, the people of my town voted against Blues Bars?
Not likely but still possible.
3. Country and Rock makes more money?
I do know the "Strip" is doing 'very well' with their current venue choices.
4. Blues Bars have some reputation that (prevents the people from enjoying) thus, money/payoff is forecasted to be low. No supporting money can be had.
5. We are "Too Close" to NOLA to warrant a bar or lounge in this area.
The sad fact, the one that stands out in my mind, is the simple fact that there is absolutely NO BLUES being promoted or expressed in my town.
If someone had the start-up capital, it might be a rewarding investment but right now, according to my own observations, not happening.
It doesn't even need to be limited to the Blues. The blues goes really good with certain Jazz. So a bar that has blues and Jazz might be an alternative but: Nothing either way?
Not knowing the conditions before Katrina I don't know if the Blues Bars closed, were destroyed or abandoned.
I do know, from driving around my town, there are no 'old' blues bars.
While I can tolerate Rock and I can tolerate Country, I prefer the blues.
Is this a venue that has been taken away or is this an untapped venue?
