YES the late, great Jimmy Dewar (Robin Trower). How did I forget him?

The late Karen Carpenter to me has that voice that just gives you chills when you hear her sing, she was an incredible vocalist. It was as though she was singing to you personally.

Another great singer is Ann Wilson from the American band Heart, such a powerful voice, one of the great women of rock.

I also have to mention Kate Bush, her voice is very unique, her debut single Wuthering Heights was so different compared to what the other big artists and bands were releasing in 1978.

Topics like this tend to be too subjective rather than objective, so normally I avoid them. However...

Avril Lavigne

I don't care what other guys think about her.
I don't care if other guys mock or belittle me for liking her.

She's come a long way as a singer/songwriter since her first hit Complicated.

While she still has that nasal helium voice, she's expanded her vocal range and control, singing more from her diaphragm.

When it comes to songwriting, she's learned to be less repetitive with lyrics, and not rely on buzz phrases. She's also become a bit more cerebral in her lyrical approach.

Her latest album brings a more mature approach while retaining the sound and emotional force that made her popular to begin with.

There are so so many great voices that are irreplaceable and their songs, too many to list. Two of my favorites are Nat King Cole singing "Unforgettable" and Neil Diamond singing "Hello Again."

The main reason I've previously stayed out of this thread is because other posters have already named most of the singers on my objective list.

But Freddy Mercury is one of my faves. Amazing voice and range.

I tend to rank him not far below Roy Orbison.
