Proponents of Free Market Capitalism don't oppose tariffs because they are "liberal."

Since at least 1980, the Republican "solution" to low cost imports of anything, has been to drive wages and benefits down.

If anything, the people on that end of the political spectrum see tariffs as a "liberal" idea.

Oh, and by the way, there is no evidence that Chinese steel and aluminum is "inferior."

And more significant, Chinese imports of those materials are only ONE PERCENT of what America brings in. Most of what we import comes from Canada and Mexico.

now, lets impose international tax on companies that are outsourcing potential american income to other countries

Hi msharmony, we had this discussion a few months ago about cheap imports, unfortunately most people will buy the cheapest items even if they are foreign. We have suffered from cheap Chinese steel to,ruined steel towns . We do produce a purer type of steel and copper. The Chinese steel is very poor quality. The main reason for any import is price so it's kinda catch 22.

The car industry is a prime example of this mo.
Robots don't strike or have pensions. Unfortunately there are no "British "cars, although we make and assemble several makes, the unions saw to that years ago, constant striking! Again is down to price.
This is what I had with msharmony, example, if tomatoes are $1 a bag imported and $1.50 home grown then the majority will go for the import. Now, there could be a 25 cent tariff on that but that doesn't help job's only the government. Even Boeing have thousands of parts made in China!
