If we are sharing life stories, my mom was account manager at the USPS And my dad was an electrical engineer. they also taught me a work ethic.
but the economy didnt always care what they taught me and there were times during parenthood when I needed help getting through.
I didnt change my lifestyle to anything more than I had when I wasnt struggling, or anything less, the help was TEMPORARY until resources returned to continue maintaining our life.
See the issue is not with
TEMPORARY assistance.
The issue is with ongoing assistance that is obviously fraudulent.
When I was on and off and on welfare I was trying to maintain a lifestyle that was not feasible.
I made a change to my lifestyle to prevent needing ongoing assistance.
I made drastic changes and it worked.
Nobody told me to.
I racked my brain looking for a solution and I did what made sense and it worked.
that is ONE issue, and the question remains, how does an observer from the outside look at a stranger and know which ISSUE theirs is?
The ISSUE is the rampant fraud as a whole.
The over-all effect.
A woman with 4 kids in a grocery store may or may not be on assistance, may or may not be a single parent, may or may not be abusing the system.
But, we are exposed to enough examples that its reasonable to think she is.
When I was on assistance, pushing a kart thru a store with 4 kids in tow I had a kart full of supplies to last the month.
When I was working and pushing a kart thru a store with 4 kids in tow I had a kart with groceries for a week.
Having experienced food stamp living, I recognize it.
When I see a kart full of high end items in quantity and she is towing along 4 kids I suspect she is abusing the system. They are not always sing food stamps but I don't know that, they could just have plenty of money.
But I do know that when I have plenty of money, I don't shop for a month with kids in tow. When I have only one income per month I tend to fill up with quantity.
People usually don't buy 10 family packs of steak once a month unless there isn't money available on a regular basis.
Whats more, but not a prevailent in today's world due to benefit dates being random, most of these people are buying mass quantities around the end or beginning of the month.
Then you happen to see them loading up in the tricked out caddy with custom wheels.
No I can't know their circumstances but I have an idea because I have experience and plenty of examples.
