Hello miss Elissa ... libido is complicated .. it can definitely be affected by hormonal, psychological and social influences .. although testosterone and estrogen are the main sex hormones there are other hormones that come into play . For example our mood hormones dopamine and serotonin.. those with depression often suffer a low libido .
It is also said that men have more testosterone production when they are around ovulating women ...(polygamous males generally have the highest libidos) . women generally have a higher libido during ovulation .. so the hormonal cycyle itself can influence levels in the body .. seldom are they static ., levels of cortisol which is s primary hormone can also come into play with production of other hormones .
Likewise , for men .... testosterone levels can increase or decrease depending on the frequency they have sex and how often they orgasm .
.
I am not sure what your current hormone therapy is elissa but you seem very positive, happy and confident about your transition to a woman perhaps that is motivation enough for your libido to go into hyperdrive.
Addit .....Testosterone replacement in menopausal women is still controversial . It is true women do have a very small amount of natural testosterone but progesterone and oestrogen are the primary female hormones that influence female libido . With ageing it is not just our sex hormone production that diminishes .. our cortisol levels and production of pituitary hormones responsible for every function in the body diminish .
Hi Blondey,
I always like your wise insight :)
I’m currently on Estradiol administered through injections. Perhaps the high levels of estrogen caused by injections have something to do with my high libido as well.
I took progesterone in the past. It made me sleepy. Helped a lot with breast development though.
My cortisol and DHEA levels are always very low, my testosterone is basically non existentent.
My FSH and LH ( thyroid hormones ) are completely suppressed.
I’m basically flooded with estrogen :)
I have always had a creative mind and a creative mindset. Maybe that has something to do with it as well. Not sure.
I can easily get aroused although orgasming takes a lot of build up work.
It’s also whole body waves now instead of just locally, so the female orgasms are present.
It’s usually around periods where my boobs get tender and my areolae swell that my sex drive goes in overdrive.
I still have male reproductive organs which might also affect how my nerves in the genitals respond to estrogen.
I also read somewhere that a small portion of women don’t need testosterone to stimulate sex-drive. That estrogen is enough for a happy few. I might be one of those happy few. Since my brain structure as a trans woman is feminine.
It’s still a mystery though why my sex drive is so high.
Even at menopausal levels for both sex hormones ( testosterone and estrogen ) my sex drive was still very high.
I wonder if some people can get aroused, independent of their hormone levels?
Or maybe it is the fact that I feel more comfortable in my body now.
I’m a bit worried about high sex drive. I once read somewhere that it can stimulate levels of prolactin going in overdrive when you orgasm too often.
I really worry about it.
High prolactin can cause blindness.
So orgasming too often could in theory also cause blindness then if that study about orgasming and prolactin was right :-/
Thanks for your insight,
Elissa.
