I think perhaps the south is more concerned with customs and traditions and appearances than the north. And the north may be a bit more openly honest with the expression of their feelings in person.
Not saying at all that custom and tradition are bad. I just emphasize that what "SEEMS" on the outside is not necessarily the end of the story or even the big picture.
