Bangkok (AFP) - A nine-year-old Buddhist novice has died after a beating by a Thai monk who allegedly battered him with a stick and slammed his head against a pillar, officials said Friday.

Monk Suphachai Suthiyano, 64, flew into a rage during a prayer session last weekend when the young disciple disrupted the ceremony with his "playful" behaviour.

The monk allegedly assaulted Wattanapol Sisawad with a bamboo stick at the temple in Kanchanaburi, two hours west of Bangkok, striking him on his back several times before bashing his head into a pillar.

The child fell into a coma and passed away late Thursday, a hospital worker at Kanchanaburi provincial hospital told AFP on Friday, requesting anonymity.

That's awful. The news is so depressing, some people I know and I , have long wanted to see a good news channel. Today R2 baked a lovely cake, and then ate the lot, while stroking a purring cat

Good thing you weren't around in the early 1900's when prophylactics were from the devil and there weren't really any safe abortion options (which were also from the devil).
Orphanages and churches were filling up with babies and no one had a clue how to take care of them.
Political cartoons depicting wheelbarrows full of dead babies being taken out and disposed of into giant pits full of dead babies.
It was a problem just like illegal immigration or school shootings or welfare or Trump tweeting, today.
(and as an interesting note, for the longest time they (baby orphans) were just treated like cattle. stick them in a pen, go around feed them at specified times, maybe change them once in a while, otherwise let them sit there. it wasn't until caregivers started actually picking the babies up, touching them, cooing at them, holding them while giving them a bottle, giving them nurturing contact and the death rate dropped precipitously. Simple human contact, extended the life expectancy of babies significantly...that was a "breakthrough" in the day)

But yeah, one guy kills a kid in a country of over a billion people...direct evidence the world must be going mad.

When I was in South China I witnessed about 10 monks fighting with about 10 cops. And the monks were beating the cops up.. until more cos came. I have no idea what started the fight.

Monks may not talk, but they sure can throw punches

I lived in Thailand for 5months I can’t speak for all Thai people or monks for that matter but I can tell you that they are some of the kindest nicest people I have ever met this is a very surprising thing to hear and I don’t think it’s representative of the entire Thai Buddhist culture.

This is the reason why I avoid fighting.
In the service, I was taught to kill with my hands and feet. I was taught that anything can be a weapon if used correctly.
I have an inner fear that if I fight, that training and conditioning might take over and I might kill someone by accident.
So, I learned to control myself.
There is always an alternative to violence.
There are hypothetical exceptions where you have to defend you or your loved ones from imminent death but I have never actually been put in that type of situation. I assure you tho, if I am, I won't be trying to hurt them.
I will be using deadly force by any means necessary.

I would take the lazy guy approach and just shoot them instead of all that fighting..why get all sweaty?
