FACT CHECK: Who Gets Credit For The Booming U.S. Economy?
Unfortunately, presidents and government officials tend to be given credit.
Usually by stupid people.
And the even more moronic tend to argue about which one is "really" to blame/credit.
If the president is really so powerful to be able to influence the entire economy to such a degree, that should scare the crap out of everyone.
Especially republicans and those that actually want limited government. Wasn't the entire point of having completely separate branches of government to avoid something like that?
Some people are always looking for a scapegoat to ostracize and feel in control and powerful, or the hero to validate themselves through a false sense of shared community, though.
Unfortunately, the morons that do, the latter, think they're fighting a "good" fight when really they're just contributing to the same problem.
It legitimizes the idea that the president/government should have the power to influence the economy to such a degree.
Who should get the credit for that strong performance?
No one.
It's mostly like watching a tide and giving credit for the rising due to the person standing on the beach at the time.
Other than that, what "should" be going on is people smart enough to go to the government websites, look up the government published numbers, dissect them, question them, and look into how the government is getting the numbers they are getting, how they are "crunching" them, and how they (and media) are coming to the conclusions they are coming to and why.
Otherwise it's no different than just reading headlines and knee jerk reacting wanting to form an opinionated judgment so as not to be left behind by some perceived peer group.
