Well to start our pot holes are starting to open again from the ... patch work they have done ... yibe... Not! I am still waiting to be reimburse for my tires and rims ... but anyway I was coming home yesterday ...and we have a lot of large trucks on our back rds and then there is the tanker trucks & and then the semis...and we have some small bridges to go over an sometimes the semis have to wait to make the turn ... now most of these drivers want to own the rd ... and go really fast even over the speed limits ... not all are careful ... this is what happen scared the cr*p out of me ... cause I have already been in a accident with one ... so now I am more careful... not that I wasn't before ... but anyway this big semi pulls over to let us by ... becouse he had a big turn to do on the bridge ... there where 3 of us ... one big truck in back of the semi then me then another...large truck ... well the one in front started to go... then I start to go around ... then here comes the A*hole in a large truck speeds by us all ... I swear i put my hands on my head ...off the wheel an stopping ... thinking here I go again ... and I would think if that last large truck hit anyone of us... it would have been his fault for speeding like he did ... now I do not mind being passed by any of these in the hurry A h*L* but when it comes to something like this ... it is WTF time ... and the ? is whose fault would it have been... if he hit us both... coming from be hide ... I have more panic attacks as it is driving now ... and took me a few of months to get back on the rds ...to try and drive ... so just seems I am always being challenge on these rds ... when all I want to do is get home or get to where I need to be safely ... They have a new to me show parking wars on TV now ... well I am pretty polite... when it comes to that ... but I got in to a fight with some big guy and his big truck yesterday ... and I just think it was his ego with his big truck ... and not all are like this but their are a few ... and of course I have to be around them ... when their heads decides to go up their A**es ... and they think they do no wrong or can do know wrong ... big trucks and all ...

As I'm semi truck driver, yes some guys are impolite & un profficinal when it comes to the road driving but most of those guys are just drivers, but ss I'm also an owner & paying for my own insurance
Its completely different story.. Just be safe & always take extra attention when it comes to road waving

I'm a not an aggressive driver. I give drivers their space, even when they cut me off when I have the right of way, or go through a stop sign. A lot of people drive as if they are in a hurry. I drive and be considerate of others on the road.

One time I went really fast in order to jump over the 5-ft wide roadside ditch. I told my friend who was the passenger that it would save about ten minutes of navigating this way. He said it felt like being in a wreck.

We have potholes here in NYC and N. Jersey that will swallow your car. And the stock answer rom the city when your car gets damaged is " well, it sucked being you today.. your getting nothing from us.. just a towing bill"

I have been working there for over 30 years. The truckers are for the most part courteous and professional.and frankly they are cut off by cars more then they cut off cars.

For the life of me I have no idea how they drive those 53' trucks thru the streets in the city without creating worlds of carnage. I would quit that job the first day.

there are bad truck drivers out there, for sure. But without truck drivers... we (everyone) will get nothing in our stores or delivered to our houses.

They really are the " grease" that keeps the wheel moving

I walk pretty much anywhere only a mile away. I refuse to be addicted to cars like everyone else. I would take the train instead of drive if it went more places. Almost jumped on a few commercial trains, but focusing on not getting caught by the law is worse than focusing on driving safely.

Smith System Training – 5 Keys of Defensive Driving

Aim High In Steering

Look at least 15 seconds into your future, not just at the vehicle in front of you.

Get the Big Picture

Look for hazards. (Other Motorists, Pedestrians, Vehicle doors opening, etc.)

Keep Your Eyes Moving

Don’t stare. Use your peripheral vision. Stop the fixed habit stare.

Leave Yourself an Out

Monitor the space cushion around you.

Make Sure They See You

Use your signals. (Directionals, 4-way Flashers, Head Lights, Brake Lights, Horn, Hand Signals.) Make eye contact.

As a truck mechanic I was required to attend driver's training meetings.
(We had to know 'how' the drivers operate the vehicles)
The Five Keys were all over the place and topic at every safety meeting.

Like MK2 says, there are truckers that don't care but most CDL licensed operators have knowledge of the 5 Keys and most reputable employers require driving training as a complinace with federal law.

What happens more often than not is the passenger car operators do not have professional driving attitudes and just wing it. More often than not, its the passenger car that causes the accident because they are not paying attention or they don't understand the physics of how a truck operates.
You might be able to swerve out of the way on a moments notice. You might be able to stop in a few car lengths but trucks are big and heavy.

If you drive with situational awareness and understand that the vehicles are heavy machines that do not have the reflexes your body has, you will prevent most close calls.

Then there's the whole blind curves, stale greens and soft shoulders aspect to driving.

Take care to be careful out there...and...Pay Attention.

My brother was an insurance adjuster and drilled into my mind that you have to drive for YOURSELF AND The Other Drivers Also. It's all on you in the insurance adjusters mind. So when I feel like giving the bird, I lower my wings and mutter under my breath. Better safe than sorry. And believe me, there are some drivers out there I know have fake or expired licenses.

Huge trailer Trucks take up to much space in small side streets and some major roads in smaller Cities.
I f I could I would reroute them all to major highways Only, then when making stops in town use major roads.

it all depends on the driver
most are in a rush , that dont help : (
and i dont mean just truck drivers , they know for the most part know how to drive ,and have gone to some type of school and got a C.D.L.
i more worrie about the other drivers here

it snows or rains , then that is when the real fun begins
