What does the passage mean to you? Are Christians in marriage meant to have 'vanilla' intimacy? How pure is pure? If it is exclusive between the husband and wife, no third parties or such ... does a 'pure' bed refer to the exclusivity of the relations or how 'vanilla' those relations should be?

Now thaose thaughts are out of the way.laugh My opinion on that passage is you are correct in no extra partners in the bed. And it does suggest a plain "vanilla" type of activities.

Of course it's been a very long time since i've been in church. drinks drinks oops

I doubt god used words such as vanilla to describe intimacy . Does the bible not define sexual immorality ??? Seems to be an oversight laugh laugh I thought the bible was quite explicit about sex , procreation., homosexuality , adultery etc. biggrin

I believe in monogamy but what happens inside my bedroom is my business whether it’s vanilla or strawberry.

The bible is not a deciding factor in my sex life. It’s between me and my partner and it doesn’t matter if we are married or not.

It does,but ...... etc,etc,you know the story.Man (guided by his beguiling woman) will always find a way around such problems.winking Not everyone accepts what is in the bible.The passage quoted makes no reference to what is permitted or forbidden,however the context may give clearer understanding.I was under the impression God judged everybody,not just the adulterer and the sexually immoral so can't see the relevance of the statement here.Just to complicate things the term "marriage bed" has taken on a new meaning recently with the acceptance of gay marriage.There are those who will argue that marriage can only exist between a male and a female.what drinks

It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; ..that each of you should learn to control your own body in a way that is holy and honorable, ..not in passionate lust like the pagans, who do not know God;


As far as sex in marriage .. apparently a wife should submit to her husband !!! Could be kinky submission but if you look at the other biblical verses ...

..I am pretty sure anything other than starfish missionary sex is considered immoral or lewd .. it is ok to have the lights on and look upon each other's nakedness :wink: but you need to stay in control of your body (no premature explosions) laugh laugh if you have any lustful thoughts best you head to confession and repent

Your body is a temple and should never be defiled . ... screams of biblical vanilla !!!!

The actual phraseology in the passage is dependant on which translation you use. I believe the intent or the spirit of the text is saying that if you are married before God and you are in the spirit then the two flesh (husband and wife) shall become one. The marriage bed shall not be defiled meaning a husband and wife who have become one can do anything sexually with each other and it is blessed (not deviant) because they are joined not only physically but also spiritually. My interpretation.

I could go into all the philosophies inspired about sex in religion.
I don't think that is what you're asking due to the term "vanilla".

From what I understand about that religion is that husband and wife are expected to mate using what is commonly called "The Missionary Style"
Facing each other lying prone with the woman beneath the man.

"Doggie Style" is not permissible because it alludes to animalistic attitudes.
Likewise, any position/style that does not sanctify the act is considered sin.

What is also implied is that a man should never spill his seed unless in the act of procreation.
Therefore, just having sex because it feels good is also a sin.

It is also implied that the bed is the holy place of procreation so sex in the kitchen, porch or living room is also considered a sin.

From what I conclude from my understanding of the religion in which I followed, there is no such thing as holy sex. Any sex for pleasure is a sin. Even with husband and wife.

Copulation is for one purpose only, to sire a child.
Be fruitful and multiply and all that jazz.

Problem is, many don't know what forgiveness they need to ask for.
As far as I'm concerned, being human is not a sin and I don't need to be forgiven for doing what comes naturally.

I don't believe any of this is in the bible, but rather just passed down censorious puritanical beliefs that have been held onto by some churches (religions) out there that want to control their followers out of guilt or fear that they won't be worthy to attain everlasting life in heaven. The people who preach " vanilla" think of the other " flavors " all the time.
They are just not honest about it with themselves. Which leads to some very frustrated folks out there.
Now God doesn't want us to be frustrated...right ;)
