When you enter someone's home, do you notices what they have on their walls?
Does what they display, determine how you think of them?
What if their walls were completely blank, no pictures, no artwork.
Would that affect how you think of them or is it not something you think about?

I have over 10,000 family pictures.
Not one is on my walls.
I play screenshows of them when I get to wanting to see them.

I have one poster (godzilla) in the bedroom. LOL, yes, in the bedroom.
I have a pencil drawing of a Tiger on the entry wall near the door.
I have a framed certificate from Star Fleet Academy and a Certificate from the Bennu mission at NASA hanging in my hallway.
Other than that, nothing on my walls.

I do have a pencil rendering of the US Navy Seabee in a frame on a speaker in the living room.

I'm just curious is all?

I am a picture crazy lady. And I collect crosses of all kinds. I don't think it matters what's on a person's walls. Some prefer it bare some not I suppose. I don't think I have a bare wall in my home laugh

Some people have a zillion pictures of their family and kids on 8every* wall, from the front door, all down the hall (both sides) all the way to the bathroom.....LOL

That's a bit much..

A few interesting pictures is nice, I have some Japanese artwork.
I have VanGogh's Starry Night over my bed (Large matted and framed print)

A few vintage cafe/ restaurant-type signs in my kitchen and dinette..

That's it.

I don't make a assumption about people based on lack of decor, or over abundnace of it (the latter, you can usually get an idea of what is important to them insofar as hobbies, etc.)...
I just figure it's whatever suits them..

That's refreshing.
While married, my X covered every spot of wall with pictures, every horizontal surface with mementos.

When I got my apartment, I thought, I don't need all that but I often wondered if others might see me as 'blank'.

If you could have a large (poster-sized) picture of anything on your walls but nothing else, what would you choose?

If I walked into a house and there were blank walls, I wouldn't think anything of it. If a house had pictures and paintings all over, they are meant to be looked at, so I'd get an opinion or feeling about the person.

I guess that's true.
However, have you ever been in someone's house the very first time and been subjected to awful family pictures that are disturbing to look at?

My B-I-L covers his walls with pictures of him drunk and being a fool.
I always considered him as a sick and twisted individual because of that.

When I visit someone that has pictures of family posted all over the place it makes me think they have Alzheimer's or some breakdown in their memory ability.
I get a feeling of compassion for them because they seem to need a constant reminder of the past.

I get regular updated pictures from my kids.
So regular, the grandkids are constantly changing.
I like to see them as they are now.
That's why I play slide shows instead of putting hard copies on the walls.
Because the people keep getting older.

My dad is dead. I have pictures of him that I play too, when I'm missing him.
I don't need a constant reminder that he is gone, just a refreshing look every now and then. I REMEMBER him alive and that memory is still very strong even though its been since 1984 that I saw him.
I have no memory problems and don't NEED pictures on my walls to constantly remember them.

I love taking pictures of loved one's. Many are gone and I like to be able to see the pictures, and remember the moment it was taken.

Yes, I understand the concept of monumental pictures.
I have a picture of my grandson's first expression seeing a balloon pop.
It had whipped cream on it.
Perfect timing.

The picture in itself tells a story.
I also have a picture of my son with his wrestling trophy.
I have pictures of him taken that day.
I have the reference but anyone else doesn't have that reference.

Why did you take that picture of the Goose?
Well, when Christopher was little he couldn't say goose yet and called it a Geek. When the X and I looked, we saw a man standing there and thought he was calling him a geek and Chris got a lesson on respecting others, only to find out he was referring to the goose.
Makes me laugh but if I had it on a wall, nobody else would get it.

To someone that wasn't there, they see the picture and think I love geese.

A year ago I was in a thrift store in my town and saw the perfect painting for my sister. I was going to buy it, but stopped because everyone has their own taste. I texted her about it and she looked on line about the painting. She wanted it and i bought it for $5 with the frame. She loves it.

I don't think pictures on a wall would turn me off unless they were Weird
Pictures of strange things.

I have a huge shelf for pictures in my dining area. I don't like pictures all over my walls.

I keep a neat home. Don't like a lot if clutter. Like lots of space .

Some people s houses are so cluttered you can hardly get through it.

I 've had men to say that about some women's places.

For the longest time I wanted to do a shadow box filled with little bags of dirt from every place I have been.
I don't want that anymore...been way too many places.

People adorn their walls with all sorts of stuff, not just pictures.
I met a woman that had cows. Yes, cows, cow this cow that, pictures of cows, cow gadgets cow art, cows, cows, cows!
I remmember my first impression...WTF?

When I asked her about all the cows, she got testy and told me to leave if I don't like cows. Hahahaha!
Thing was, she lived in a rural area with plenty of cows in the pastures along the road.
I never did figure out why she loved cows so much?

Watch out about the things you keep. I had a live baby raccoon and a couple of statues. People thought I was collecting raccoon stuff. I wasn't. It got out of control. Everyone was giving me raccoon things.

Now I am frightened to put anything on my walls in case I get
called strange or a weirdo!!!
Anyway, it makes life easier if you have blank walls and it comes
time to paint them!!

I would have a lot more things on my walls if it weren't so surprisingly expensive to put things up. Just things that are key mementos from my own past.

On my project desk right now, I have a couple of decks of cards, and a meal menu that I bought online, from the S.S. United States. A great ship that briefly sailed between America and Europe in the fifties and sixties, before air travel erased that mode of transportation.

I really couldn't say in a logical way, why it would make me feel better to preserve things like this in framed boxes on my walls, I just know that it would. Heck, it could be as simple as that I would feel subconsciously as though I had joined and taken my own place in the world, alongside all the other people who have things on their walls (other than programmed stuff).

Side note: the only thing that strikes me as bizaar, when it comes to stuff on walls, is when there is MEANINGLESS STUFF there. Like in businesses, where some designer decided that the waiting room should look like your uncles living room.

Especially weird, is all of what I call "Business Art" that gets churned out across the US, just to have stuff to put on waiting room walls. Business Art is specifically designed to be juuuust arty enough that we all subconsciously accept that since it's in a frame, it must be "art," but not have enough concept or thought or any other intrusive expression in it, so that we actually want to react to it AS ART.

If I could afford it, I'd love to have all sorts of sneaky stuff on my walls. Paintings that look like the usual old ships at anchor, but if you look closely, you'll see that the crew is just starting to mutiny, or to do something else interesting. I'd like to have a line of hieroglyphs running as a decorative band along the top of my living room walls, that only the people who could read them, would realize were quotes from the Rocky and Bullwinkle SHow. Stuff like that.

My Mom's walls were completely covered, as were any shelves she had. She was a great decorator and they looked nice... but my main thought was what a pain in the azz it would be to dust all that stuff.

When I had my home the walls weren't bare... just enough to make it look homey and to reduce the time I had to spend dusting.

Hummm well I'm one that even has stuff hanging on the walls on my enclosed porch.. They are two big wicker fans I have painted to match the wicker furniture I have out there...

And yes then the living room walls have stuff hanging on them that matches in with the decor (western).....

Right now the only room that does not have anything on the walls is my long hallway.. Use to have pictures of the kids ect all down the hallway. I took them down when I painted several years ago and just never put them back up..

But I still have some of them on my desk, living room end tables and on my dresser in the bedroom....

One day may hang them back in the hall way.. Or I might get more photo albums to put them all in.. I like to look at them from time to time..

Myself does not matter to me if one has bare walls or stuff on every wall... it all depends on what the person likes..

Renters often are not allowed to hang pictures or put holes or nails or hooks in walls. I have many pictures, but my walls are bare due to this anti-culture rule.
