What do you all think about this issue and please try to go with personal experience and the BS on the news.
I think for many with chronic pain there is a psychological and emotional component that is not always addressed . everyone's experience is unique .. pain thresholds , tolerance and coping mechanisms all vary .
As for opiate overprescribing ... ... I could imagine the chaos if patients were required to attend a weekly appointment to be reassessed for a prescription . Perhaps for opiates this should be mandatory :-)
oxycodone is very effective postop for moderate to severe pain . Most medications capable of treating pain at this level carry a risk of tolerance and dependence .. especially with long term use . Restrictive changes have already begun around the prescribing of codeine and tramadol .. I am sure opiates will follow .
