I use Microsoft Security Essentials. I have used it for years and never had a problem with it.. You will not lose codes or passwords when you download it. If you have a problem please message me and I will help you if you need it.

More important than choosing what malware software to use is keeping your software up to date, especially your OS. The free security that comes with your PC should be sufficient enough for your needs, in general. Make sure auto update is enabled in the OS and in your software, especially the browsers you use.

By keeping your software up to date and using a bit of common sense, you'll be safe. :)

I have worked in the computer business for some 30 years and I have used AVG Free Anti-Virus for years without any issues. It will not touch any of your other settings.

I had Eset anti-virus full program and it was very good. Installed by someone in the IT business who told me it was one of the best.
Then the Windows 10 update came and after that my Eset had gone. The b@st@rds!! I guess Eset also stopped Windows from collecting data and they don't like that.
Now I have Windows Defender only which I don't really like.

Occasionally I run Malware Anti-Malware Bytes and Trendmicro Housecall to do a free virus scan of the PC.
Every now and then, if those don't find anything but my PC is slow anyway, I run Malware Anti-Adware (or something, hihi). Often that finds stuff the other two missed.

I don't run stuff like AVG anymore as it slowed the machine down.

I've been in IT for 48+ years...build all my own machines. Best stuff...

- Browser: FireFox...I never use Chrome and MS Edge??? Nope

- VPN: NordVPN. Need a VPN to stay anonymous on the web

- Anti-Virus/Malware/Adware/Ransomware: BitDefender. Great product.

- Email: MS Outlook...the worldwide standard

- Productivity: MS Office...again, the worldwide standard. Don't cheap out.

With Nord and BitDefender, they always have 3-year offers for less than $100 each. On purchase, you can put the software on up to FIVE devices. PCs, tablets, phones, etc. So cheap to stay so safe for so long.

A web site called Major Geeks has heaps of free info, and forums to ask questions, and nearly always someone in the forums can help or advise you your exact problems, free. Do a search on there first.

I go to Gizmo.
http://www.techsupportalert.com/pc/security-tools.html
They not only give you links to the free software they give you a review of software and its competition.
Plus you can read user comments.

First thing to try if your system is running slow is to clear the cache and run a good defragmenter.
Just like a car, your pc needs maintenance for it to stay running right.

This is a crazy digital world with too many fake accounts and at this time not using a smartphone which has these crazy sensors capable of doing crazy things etc.I think itโ€™s better to use a gsm phone and a lan with a PC which doesnโ€™t have a Camera or Mic.Both android and apple seem to allow criminals do all kinds of crooked stuff so till their cyber war games end its better not to watch even Tv with crazy adds.want to store pictures just get new memory cards, want to keep your kids safe from digital hypnosis and adhd donโ€™t let them watch tv or smartphones. The World is not safe

I don't even worry about it anymore.
I use whatever is on windows 10 -can't even remember the name
however... I use only 5 or 6 websites plus occasional searches.
Best security is to not click bunches of random stuff -or do that with a different device!

SUPERAntiSpyware (with updated definitions) run from safe mode is the only thing that has been able to fix some computers I have dealt with.
Not truly an "antivirus", but solves many common problems.

Dude what does your post have to do with pc security? surprised

OT: I use Kaspersky Total Security. It is not free but is well worth it.
