I've been told I'm a glass-half-empty type of person.. always looking on the down side.. rather than the upside.of things..
And for the most part I think I do...
I wish I could see life through rose-colored glasses..I really do wish that... but I find looking at things as half empty has helped me....in some ways.... as an example ..yes it's nice out right now but should I bring an umbrella..just in case it rains later on...
.. or yes ..that was a good movie but it could have been a lot better..

.. I don't know if I'm a pessimist.. or an optimist or just a realist....

I tend to see things for what they are not what they could be... tomorrow's future looks bright but... when I really look hard at it im doubtful...is that wrong.?..

I think you live in your head too much :kissing_heart: try not to do that or be with someone that would be able to help you not do that

I am an absolute optimist, simply cannot help it, have always been thus.

Glass is always almost full for me. I think it is a personality trait that
one develops real young. I know because I have a relative no one can stand
being around because of all the negativity, it is palpable and so depressing.
If you are around people like that you can become like them.

Try counting your blessings darlin', you should see a longer list ;-)

I am a realist too.. I prefer to live in the now and deal with life as it unfolds . some situations like grief go through a cycle of healing and our feelings and behaviour change according to our coping styles ., affirmations and positive thinking can be powerful but not if it denies you the opportunity to learn and grow . As Soufie said ., you are blessed .. chin up Canadian boy  waving

I am a realist see things for what they are in a relationship. I'm always hopeful but not a dreamer. I don't look through rose colored glasses.

Hi No1phD,
I have a glass half full perspective on things. I always try to see both sides of a story. I would say I'm an optimistic realist. winking
I see things for what they are AND what they could be.
No matter the situation, There is a reason for everything. When times get tough I tell myself someone out there has it worse than me......

Good luck to you!

I can say my glass is pretty much to the top... life is what we make it...If one only looks at the negative side then life will become negative.. regardless what happens I realize that I have a lot more then some have so I'm grateful.. and try to be thankful...

Not that we all don't have bad days...just when I do I re-treat get offline watch a bit of tv or do stuff around the house.. Play games only on my phone..Or get out and do something with friends.. Then tackle it the next day...

If a movie could be better , it could be better, that's your opinion and thinking it doesn't make you a pessimist or optimist. Bring an umbrella being prepared is always a smart thing to do and again doesn't make you a pessimist or optimist

I'm a half and half of who knows. As long as I'm with friends or family, or busy I'm happy. Sometimes when I'm alone and quiet I tend to get all up in my own active mind and get sad but I just go with it since I know it won't last long.

Now Bob that all depends on what his glass is filled with.

I take a quantum mechanical approach. The glass is half empty and half full at the same time. Then I take a sip and the wavefunction collapses.

I'm a realist too but never underestimate the power of positive thinking!

From a philosophical point of view I tend to be optimistic.
I used to be very pessimistic, always expecting the worst and I found a whole lot of worst.
By now expecting the best, I find many more positive things in life than negative.
The negative still happens but I am better able to deal with them emotionally.

I am more of a "the glass IS half full, but I don't really like what's in it all that much myself" kind of person.

That is, I'm overall optimistic, but only in a general way. I feel some kinship with the people here who get labeled as being pessimistic, while feeling they are just realists.

Basically, I KNOW what my limits are, so I can't get all that intensely involved with certain pursuits, but I think well enough of myself overall, that I don't get down on myself for not doing so. Nor do I get mad at others who don't appreciate what good qualities I do have, or find me desirable because of them.

What about this: can someone be cheerfully pessimistic?
