The thing is when the settlers or Invaders initiated this county it was established upon an idea that freedom was a good given right and even though they in essence were Christian with a conversion mission, that everyone should be allowed.to worship as they wish. That everyone should be free to speak or not to speak as they wish. They never made a national.language even though many signs are in English, but would.you tell the blind to see so they could read English and we don't have to.print Braille for them. Freedom for speech means any language. This a.melting pot of ethnicity when we don't even speak English in itself.but many languages and phrases from many ethnicities.

The funny thing is..I don't hear anyone complaining about the people in Chinatown in San Francisco need to learn to "speak English"..or the Hasidic Jews, or any other group that has their little enclave ("Little Italy, or any of the other area in NY wehere you can go and not hear English, abnd the signs are in whatever ethnicioty that aprticuar area is)..
A *lot* of the older people never learned English, and yet were quite productive, and brough intetreting things culturally to this country..

I'm reminded of those whote people that took Native children away from their hancestral homes, cut their hair, made them wear white people clothes, follow white people's customs, and beat them for speaking their own language instead of English...all under the guise of "helping" them..

EVERY other first world country (Germnany, Switzerland, Sweden, to name a few that I know people from), the people speak 2 languages...whatever the main language is, and English.
American is the only one where the majotrity of the population doesn't.

No,we (the English or/and British) don't speak any other languages really, maybe a little French
Our form of communication to 'Johnny Foreigner' is usually to say it slower and louder, in the hope that the 'dinwit' understands......hhhhaaammm. Bbuurrgggeerr por favor si vous plait auf wiedersehen, wwiitthh cchhiipppss muchos muchos gracias
And 2? They generally speak more than 2, 3 or 4, or 5 or 6
English is a bastardized language anyway

I see a bit of confusion.
The reality is we live in a 'primarily' English language nation right now.
The only license restricted to English is the federal CDL (Truck Driver License).
The CDL or Commercial Driver's Licence test is not administered in Spanish. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulations require that the test only be administered in English. ... Some states do offer the CDL handbook in Spanish; however, all states are required to only offer the test in English.

For a regular license
Rules vary by state, but a number of states allow drivers to take at least the written portion of the driver's test in Spanish. Areas with high percentages of immigrants may offer the written test in other languages as well.

I just skimmed this topic so I cant use any of the quotes but in California illegals have been allowed to get DL for a long time now. It was thought by letting them get DL's the would have insurance. They get insurance for 1 month so they can register thier vehicles. If they kill some one and can get away they head straight to Mexico where it's extremely hard to bring them back. The Drivers License thing is small potatoes though. Here in San Diego the illegals know how to work the system. I mean they get food stamps and welfare right after they get here. And they get more of it then any other groups of people. It's hard for me to get a doctor's appt hereb be cause the system is backlogged by illegals and green card holders.

First off, I have little confidence in anything related to the east or west coasts.

California is what I consider the cilmination of what
NOT to do.

Obviously you are more concerned with how people are treated than the welfare of the state.
You reap the benefits and consequences of the stance y'all support.

While your personal experiences may be less than your expectations, The only one you can balme is yourself.

If California is not giving you what you think you need, move.

California is a 'taget' of illegal immigration because the people, in general, accept it.

The only FACT is, illegal immigrants are ILLEGAL.
Illegal is alway illegal until it is legal.
To tolerate one aspect of illegality is to tolerate illgeal everywhere.
To stop the trend, requires action on all legal citizen's parts.
It doesn't matter the details...illegal is illegal.

I disagree. Details always matter. Some laws are more about profit than humanity. i believe there are many illegal actions that are tolerable compared to others like for instance murder or rape. Jaywalking or smoking pot is not really the same ball park. so in that sense only , I disagree that tolerating certain 'illegal' is the same as tolerating all forms of illegal.

While I can agree with the essence of the reality before us I must remain vigilant against the reality that is.
The issue is not jaywalking or smoking pot.
The issues is the fact that as an illegal all actions are performed by an illegal.
Illegal is illegal, anyway you look at it.

Even the ones that commit no crime are illegal unless they are legal.
If someone takes responsibility for their action is not justification if they are here illegally.
It all comes down to the FACT that those persons are here illegally.

If an illegal immigrant were to win a Nobel Prize it still does not justify the FACT that they are here illegally.
No matter the justification, the fact that they are here illegally makes them criminal.
It diminishes the value of legal immigrants.

I read where the USA had restricted immigration from about 1920, to 1960, to get those who did, naturalized citizens. I remember seeing that written down in one of my history books from grade school. I don't know how true that is.

I lived in the Polish section in Chicago for a time during college. There were quite a few Poles I met that were born here, but knew nothing but Polish. I'd say offhand, they lived very sheltered lives.

Many of the latinos I know, claim that spanish isn't latino language. Since I don't know spanish, I can't sat one way or another that it is. Sounds similar, but so does some oriental languages to me. There again, I don't know.

A friend of my ex is born and bred german. She speaks well, with an accent. I got curious one day, and asked her if she thought in german, or english. I was told german, and that she didn't want to lose her german heritage. Even though she hadn't been back to Germany in decades.

I suspect, that once a person starts thinking in the language of their resident country, they loose their ties to their home country. It's just an observation I made. How true it is, is just my guess.

Even with illegal actions, crime is defined in the details.


Illegal is a definition for actions, not people. I. In fact, there are many 'crimes' in the USA, where 'fear for one's life' defines the degree of or even the charge with a crime. There are also classes of 'crimes', based in the details. Just a blanket label of 'illegal', IMHO, is not enough to make a one stop blanket assessment of a person or their actions.


I do believe, however, that when it comes to DL, and it is a legal document, it is issued based on residency and it should be only regarding legal residency. After all, I do not think we can get vehicle registration on a car that we have not obtained 'legally'. That same expectation should pertain to the DL, in my opinion.

I have never considered in what language a person may be thinking. that is an interesting point.


I believe there is a difference between culture and country. Country is a geographic location. Culture is customs and language and values and community. I do think one never loses their 'culture' so long as they don't lose their 'community' and the values or customs that are central to it, and community is not tied down to geographic location.
