I find it a bit tricky for someone to “Like” me then nudge me knowing if I respond to their Nudge even to say “hi” we become a Match. Usually I respond with “You have my attention”, because I suppose that’s what they’re after, but how does that constitute me showing interest or a willingness to meet them? I’m not asking anything be done about it or that it should be changed, but I’m merely pointing out that I’m now reserved as to whom I’ll reply to after a Nudge or “Hi” for that reason, not because I’m inconsiderate. Of course, I understand that goes both ways so if I don't get a reply, that is a reply.

Say what?

You don't become a match, unless you manually
click on "yes", and the other person manually clicks
"yes", in the Find a Match section of the site.

A nudge, is just a nudge.
An email, is just an email.

That has been my experience immediately after hitting the Send Message button I get mail stating I have a Match and that person is in my Mutual Match folder/box whatever it is. And I hadn’t “Liked” them in the past and couldn’t have in some cases because they only just arrived.

That’s normally what winds up happening, but now I’m hearing that it doesn’t happen to everyone, at least RockGnome is saying otherwise.

I get a nudge when they dont meet my criteria for a message. For example this last one didn't have a photo... which to me is inexcusable. Others simply are way too young. Many scammers out lately so be careful. Learn to google photos and look to see if the pictures were stolen.

I don't understand being "kicked in the butt". Am I supposed to respond to that?

As far as I know it works like Rock says: a nudge is a nudge, nothing to do with becoming a match.

I never even look at nudges. Who cares? If someone has interest in me they can send a message. If they haven't the guts they're not for me anyways.
Neither are men who only say "hi". I don't reply to them either, I do delete useless mail.

I agree!

I do look at the nudges but they mean nothing to me unless it's from someone I know. If someone I know and like sends me one, I see it as a playful way of flirting with each other beyond what we normally do.

It has been years -- YEARS -- since I received a Nudge from a legitimate profile.

Even then, I think I've only ever received 3 that weren't from a fake profile.

Hence, I now delete all Nudges that aren't from someone I already know. Just as I ignore and delete any email that just says "Hi".

As others have said, if someone can't put the extra effort in to actually start a conversation, then I'm not going to waste my time.

And that's just the simplified version...

Welcome to the M2 Forums!

M2, just like any other dating site is a tool.
The 'match' criteria is insignificant.

Send out any 10 messages, 8 of them will be scammers.
1 will be to someone that is no longer here,
1 might be a real person actually looking to meet you.

Don't even think about the matches - They mean nothing.
If you think about it, you're looking for a free site to align you with someone special.
Not very likely, the only real prospects are the ones that reply back with real life conversation.
Set your email preferences.
