Although I'm likely the only one on here, I'm wishing all Dutch people a happy Liberation Day today!
Freedom is the highest good, so important to remember and celebrate.

Thank you!

@ Delightful, the dates are different in every country as not everyone was liberated on the same day.

We have Commemoration Day on the 4th, Liberation Day on the 5th.

So I see. I googled it and found which countries celebrate Liberation Day and when flowerforyou

yes, I thought the UK celebrated it too, but I'm not sure on what day/date. May 8th?

Lots of celebrations in our country, gigs, festivals and so on. Since I live in a small place I'd have to go further away and the weather isn't all that great so I'm not going anywhere.

Just thinking, another missed opportunity to fly our flag. I really have to get the wall flag stick holder up by next year!

May 8th commemorates the end of WW2. I think, it's worldwide.

It's not celebrated as such here in UK but May 9 is known as Europe Day

I reckon, the Brits will stop celebrating that day, after Brexit it finalized ... in like 125 years laugh

Hmm... didn't know that. I thought all European countries did. I guess the difference is that the UK sure fought in the war, but wasn't occupied like we were.

I cannot even imagine it, being in the maelstrom of chaos
like Europeans were.

Like Larsi said, Nazi occupation during WW2.

I cannot even imagine it, being in the maelstrom of chaos

It is unimaginable for me too as I was of course born later.
The last winter was horrible in my country for people in the western parts as there was no food and in those days winters were cold. People ended up eating flower bulbs, and many of those are poisonous...
Some 25.000 people died that last winter. It is called "the hunger winter".
Just so sad, as some 5 months later we were liberated. Belgium already was in November 1944. We weren't so lucky.
And that's just a very tiny part of it all.

Let's just pray we all can live in freedom and never have to go through something as horrific as that.
