I have experienced a similar situation.
In 2012, I was made a debt for my neighbor. Then my neighbor went bankrupt. And I had to sell my house to pay the debt.
Then i decided not to do such great help (because my neighbor hadn't told me you were bankrupt. So, he tricked me).
For not to experience such a situation again.
(by the way; I would like to say that I could get a small apartment again in 2017. )
