I have no problem with it, I actually like it. Posting a picture doing something they enjoy and are proud of is a good thing, imo.

I like to fish and have fun guessing what kind of fish they caught... it's a good conversation opener. When I first joined (former username) I had a picture of me holding up a fish I caught. I deleted it due to it being out dated.

The only thing I don't like about fishing is any bait that is wiggly, and cleaning the fish. Other than that I'm pretty good at untangling lines, putting the hook and sinker on the line, catching the fish and getting it off the hook. And cooking it after the man I'm with cleans it. bigsmile

How and why people fish in the States can be different, I don't know. I do know Americans are very different when it comes to the outdoors, which is logical as you have much much more of it than we do. For instance, over here if you want to go wild water rafting, you have to go to a theme park that has built a ride for that, which then lasts barely a minute.
Or you have to go abroad where you can do it in nature.
Same with hiking. Sure you can go for walks in nature here, but we haven't the vast woods and so on as you do in the States.
I remember when with my daughter in Alabama, going to the military base to walk in what was called 'a park' with the dog.
My jaw dropped when I saw the size of it, and I didn't even see the whole lot, haha. Over here that would be a large forest, for you it's a park, hihi.

Men over here that like fishing are die-hard fishers. Meaning most of their free time, money, and attention goes to fishing. Every evening when the weather is good, weekends, short trips and even holidays to go fishing.
They spend hundreds of Euros on 1 feckin' fishing rod, and my ex had about 20, maybe more? Some collectors items. He really would travel 3 hrs to buy a specific fishing rod.
Reading material is all about fishing. Basically their entire life evolves around fishing.
In the past, as I looked at fishers sat at a canal all day long, even when it rained, I joked "They have a bad marriage they need to get away from!"
Now I'm thinking "They have a bad marriage, or NO relationship because they fish."
It's almost incompatible with a relationship.
That's why I will never get involved with another one ever again. A guy who occasionally likes to fish, no problem. But not one of them die-hard ones, which is most.
Maybe this is different in the States, I don't know.
I would appreciate a man who's outdoorsy, can make a fire, catch a fish and so on. But not like that typical Dutch fisher. Never again!

Interesting, ciretom..

"Are they just insecure and feel they need to post a bunch of pictures to their profile believing it will mean greater "success," so it's ultimately just a filler picture or trying to be competitive with other profiles that have fish pics? "

Yet all the time you hear people yammering that if you only have one picture, that's bad.
Exactly *how* many is one suppised to have?
2?
4?
Is 5 "too many"?

People say "post pictures showing having fun"

Well, maybe the guys really enjoy fishing, that is fun to them, brings them joy, ergo..they'd post pics of it..
(and yes, most of us DO wear hats & sunglasses...the sun on the water glares, and it is *hot*)

I personally don't care if someone only has one pic (or 2)...or if they are smiling or not.
I base my interest on what they write, as it gives me insight into their interests and intellect, and whether they could carry on a conversation if we meet..

I know *I* have always hated having my picture taken, even as a kid...and only do the required new pic every so often for the dating sites...

Also, people who post tons of pics "hey..look at me doing *this*!"..."Look what *I* did!"..."Check this out..!"...that is a turn off to me, because *I* feel that thjey are just showing off..
*I* don't care what you *did*...I care azbout who you are...

Again, as always..we all like, want, and prefer different things, and that's OK... waving

I think those fish pictures are guys bragging to other guys. Something that happens in The US is "catch and release". They fish only to look at it, and let it go. I was watching a video loaned to me from China of those that only fished to feed their family. They did not understand the concept of "catch and release." It's given that some fish are too small. Some are not legal to eat, maybe out of season.

That's understandable, I'm outdoorsy but wouldn't want my life or his life to revolve around fishing. I agree, once in a while is fine but everyday, night, minute is way to much.

Here there's a mixture of some that are die hard fisherman who make it their whole life, just like with watching sports... and then there are those who enjoy it once in a while and do other things as well.

If you fish, do it legally, cook and eat them. Don't just do it for sport.

As far as I know, most 'sport' fishers do that. They also use hooks that don't damage the fish so they can.
Quite logical that people who fish to feed their families don't. Then what are they to do? Starve to death?
Think outside the box. Not everyone has huge supermarkets available to them, or the money to buy something to eat.
People who fish to feed their families also won't overfish the seas. That's done for our consumption, to keep our supermarkets filled with fish.
That's why fish that are basically too small will be taken. This is the result of overfishing, which again is done to keep Western supermarkets stocked. Not a result of people fishing to survive.

I actually like to fish so it wouldn't be a turn off for me.

Big fish as a main profile pic is a turn off to me. So there!
If members have big fishes in their profile tis all good but not as main profile pic.

OT - my answer is NO as MAIN profile pic.

I wonder if men with cakes on their profile pics would help.

Did someone say 'cake'? Gonna grab me a fork and a plate, brb...
