I think that cats become very good pets when they are handled a lot as young kittens and treated with love. I was given a kitten as a kid and she grew and had her own kittens. I stayed with her through the whole birth process. She wanted me there. I was handling those babies in a couple of days. I wound up keeping one of the kittens and she was best cat I ever had. I eventually gave the other kittens away to people I knew. They didn't end up in an animal shelter.
