quite into audio books, especially while doing something like painting.

This is a link to one of my all time favorite books. Well read too.

Star maker By Olaf stapledon, an English philosopher. Written in 1937, some of the cosmology is a tiny bit dated, But this book fired the imagination of sci fi's greatest writers.
In my opinion a true masterwork, and a must read (or in this case listen to )
book. Chapter 1 starts at about 12 minutes.

Anyone got any audio books that are worth a listen?

I like them but not listened to many lately. I used to listen to them when I drove trucks all over the Europe.
Must get back into them, thanks for the reminder Steve.
Will also give the one you mention a look.

I've never listened to one. I know Cherice Sinclair has many of her books published as audio books as well. Makes me wonder if the voice actors then also get breathy & sexy sounding when they get to a sex scene?
Maybe I should order one to find out just how carried away they get. But mustn't be a favorite one as I'd hate to hear voices that really don't match with what I feel the character is like.

Thank you, Steve. I read the so-English Charles Dicken's "Great Expectations" and found its audio book :)

Any better version? :)

One Hundred Years Of Solitude is also my favourite. The author, Gabriel García Márquez, who is a Nobel laureate writer impressed Barack Obama who said "the World had lost one of its greatest visionary writers", when he passed away at the age of 87 in April, 2014. Márquez believed that his grand mother made big impact the way he wrote his writings. She, who used to tell Márquez stories, sounded supernatural and fantastic - did the stories with her complete naturalness to him. I've got the audio book of one of his masterpieces "One Hundred Years Of Solitude".

Some other references and supporting information will be highly appreciated. Thank you. bigsmile

I can't do the audio book thing. I tried. I've driven on long trips and prefer music. I love to read books. When I try to listen to a book, my mind goes everywhere.

Then you have podcasts and my fav so far is
We're Alive
http://www.werealive.com/listen/
Start at episode one/part one

For Army Reserve Soldier Michael Cross, the world as he knew it ended in an instant. One minute, he’s in college, and in the next, rioters are roaming the highway around him, breaking into cars, and literally tearing people apart. This is the day the dead walk. This is the world of We’re Alive.
We’re Alive: Features chapters packing performances and sound effects that rival movies and prove that modern audio drama is undead and well. Join our survivors as they band together, struggle to fortify a safe haven known as the Tower, and discovers that zombies are far from the worst thing in a post-apocalyptic Los Angeles where the rules of human decency no longer apply.
Little food. Little water. Little hope. Who is lucky enough to say “We’re Alive?”

Note:
On the computer I have found I can download the file as an mp3.
I can then put it on a chip/usb thumb drive or burn it to a cd and listen to it in the truck or on my phone or tablet.

Here are some sources from my old bookmarks file.
Granted, some may no longer be active websites but give them a try...
