Status

The title of this thread is somewhat misleading. At this time anyway. I don't know about the future.

Greenland has just released a statement debunking the rumors. It is not for sale.

Given the present geopolitical climate, anybody can see this is a 'win-win' situation for the stakeholders including the 50 k people living on that very vast ice-sheet.

President Trump is direct. No posturing, nothing. This is something that unnerves most politicians (around the world). But it saves negotiation time and costs. I'm learning.

I realize I came off a little abrupt with my last posting.
I apologize.
It's a good topic. I like your postings. You have a lot to contribute on these forums.

Yes, it's a very important area.
It will be interesting to see what happens in the future.

I missed the 'little abrupt-ness'; where(?) Yours was a balanced observation.

What I intended to say before the shower of high praise was: 'Even if it is a 'no' from Greenland today, Trump will keep the door open for tomorrow.., at his terms.'

Returning to the topic, if someone were to enquire how does US-Greenland concern me. 'Right, it does not!'

But if the question is rephrased to 'what compels US to take in Greenland.., today' then we are discussing geopolitics, just like oil. And in geopolitics, no event is isolated; it falls within a pattern of events happening alongside. So if Pompey is saying Russia is aggressive about Arctic and the Chinese are roaming free; then it's hog wash.

The analysis does not dilute the importance of Greenland being within the fold of America; not at all. for all practical purposes it already was.

The question is, is it because Trump is a real estate Mogul and so the acquisition?
Or is it because there's something else going around the world, a pattern of events; and Trump is a fast learner?

It's more than likely because Russia are making claims in the artic region in the ice cap. wanting to find oils and minerals.
Another side is it gets them closer to the usa!
This has been going on for some time now so it's not just a trump thing.

Russia's interest in the Arctic,
extends far beyond natural resources.

If the ice melts, or can somehow be cleared
out of the way, it will open shipping lanes
that'll be worth untold trillions of dollars, to
whoever controls them.

As it sits, Russia already claims/controls much
of the Arctic.


If Greenland is to become a state or territory,
I welcome them.

I think they made passage through some time ago!

The Artic area is truly important strategically, especially since China and Russia also want it.

It is also important because of the Natural Resources, and there's also something else to consider.

It's location in reference to the Ice Caps and Global Warming. The United States is already a member of the Arctic Nations, because of Alaska. If We obtained Greenland, We could have more clout in that as well.

As far as your questions, I don't know if Trump wants to acquire Greenland, because he is a Real Estate Mogul. There is a correlation between wanting power and acquiring things. In that sense, you are correct.
He is trying to get it for the assets stated earlier.

As far as the last part of your question, (paraphrasing)

I didn't even think of that.
I, personally, think it would benefit the US to acquire Greenland. In the event that ever happened, the outcomes would depend on many variables. I don't think it's going to happen though.

Or maybe these countries are fed up of being used as a first strike facility?
Which basically all Europe is being only a few hundred miles from Moscow?

for it were made, the Danes would have been

Makes sense. The Danes could have at least waited to see what the offer was.
