At personal level: Why in heavens name would a woman wait till she gets battered? What’s the point when police have to be called in; after the event? Any father's advice would flow out from this root.

This is a clear example where legislation is in place, police can be called and man charged.

But W.r.t. the topic Question should be rephrased as

'why is battering women prevalent in societies even today'

Does it have something to do with poverty, 'masculinity', upbringing, broken families, religion, public schooling; or are there deeper reasons?

Terms are weak. I like this: in reference to energy:
