Bummer...had to cancel my hurricane party

Morning update.... slightly to the east yesterday..... west, back towards us this morning a week of this and nope we still don't know.... hope everyone is ready!

A friend posted the predictions for irma, it was suppose to ride up the east coast, she went up the west coast and middle. Andrew was suppose to make the same turn, he went straight across lower Florida(typical man wouldn't stop for directions) Michael rode the coast line, and we barely got any rain.

So basically we won't know for sure till Monday/ Tuesday(southern) Tuesday/Wednesday central Florida. So the watch continues... be safe everyone

It's going to be one of those things where we don't know for sure until it's on top of us. Very frustrating

It does seem to be taking the path that I said it would to the bartender a week ago when it was still a tropical storm.

It's going to be a long week, especially with my WiFi being messed up

Hopefully people aren't letting down their guard and thinking they are in the clear. Even with the most advanced technology it's difficult to guarantee predictions when it comes to mother nature.

I was just looking at updates online, and seeing how it hit the Bahamas... I'd be scared out of my mind! It's so small, nothing more than a narrow strip of land, there's basically nowhere to go.
And sorry to say, but I couldn't believe the lady talking about how Americans are getting in danger right when the screen showed the eye on top of that Bahamas island! Not even mentioning those people.

I understand the danged thing slowed down even more. Wait and see how it goes.

Yes, I'm feeling much fear for Bahamas right now... Dorian slowed to 8 miles a hour and is expected to slow even more...Bahamas are going to have over 24 hours of hurricane winds and rain... prayers for them

Cat 5, OMG... I find it so difficult to get my head around the fact that a hurricane can slow down and get more powerful. My head would expect it to fall over or something, hihi. You know, like a spinning top falls over when it slows down too much.
I know you cannot compare it to that, but my brain does anyway.

Let's hope the danged thing at least does turn up and eastward.

I'm worrying about everyone
It had originally had it skimming by Bahamas, much like Puerto Rica.
Northern Bahamas especially are in extreme danger now... so yes continuing prayers.

I also mentioned the lineman... these men battle the elements and in danger their lives to restore our power! My son in law from Indiana is on his way here along with 1000's of others. These men leave their families for weeks and months to help us out.... much love and prayers for their safety

Next update is at 11 (2 hours).... and I'll know more then but they are already saying the line will move west again closer to us and it will continue to get stronger

Category 5 !! that's scary in fact catastrophic. I really feel for people any where near the coast especially. But Any where that encounters winds of 160 mph is going to be severely impacted. Hope you are all safe....

Hate to correct you, but it's now at 175Mph now.

The barometric pressure keeps dropping, from 946MB last night, to 939MB now. (27.36 inches) Very nasty. This is no longer a hunker down and wait it out storm. This is a pack up and get the hell out storm, now.

In my surfing of the 'net, I just happened to do some reading of the worst tornados, since those are more likely in my area. The Tri State tornadoes of 1925, were mostly FJ 4, and 5. One in particular, dug a two foot deep trench in the ground. Very Scary to even think about that happening.

I respect events like that. About 15 years ago, I had an FJ 3 go past my house, about three miles away. That one, hit a BIG maple tree that was standing by itself in a neighbors field. That tree, was old, and about six feet across at the trunk. That took a direct hit from that tornado. It twisted that tree about twice around, then ripped it out of the ground by the roots, and threw it about 200 feet from where it stood.

If I didn't respect weather anomalies before, I do now, just seeing that.

Will the power actually be shut off when it gets bad or they leave it on and hope for the best?
I have no idea how these things go.

Some places turn it off Crystal, to avoid damage. Usually it just goes out due to damage from the storm. Once the storm is here, they generally wait until afterwards to better ensure the safety of the workers.

Some lines need to be taken care of regardless of how bad it is. They definitely have a tough and dangerous job

Right now it's on that first island of the Bahamas, gosh I'd be scared out of my mind...

Wind speed is almost 300 km/ph and the gusts 355 km/ph even
I can't even imagine what that's like!

160kmph will lift a full grown man from his feet. depending on his mass to surface area obviously.
the strongest wind gust that is not related to tornado's, ever recorded was 408 km/h or 253 mph, which puts this storm in some sort of perspective.
I hope it doesn't break the record. If you see what I mean.
