Continue prayers for Bahamas
Dorian has been devastating and continues to sit there

I'm just watching local channels, I don't have cable or wifi.
. Those are the times they get the latest info from the national hurricane center.

Dorian has dropped to a cat3 and become stationary, the cone has moved off Florida. Waiting continues.

Dorian's on the move again... NW @ 1 mph.

Florida is still out of the cone, and they are expecting Dorian to remain Northward, eventually going out to sea. Wilmington is still most likely going to be in the path as far as being closest as it passes. Fortunately they have plenty of time and are currently taking steps to ensure everyone's safety and help reduce the damage to the coast line.

It's heart breaking to even think about those in the Bahamas and my heart goes out to all of them.

It's also heart warming to see so many officials and locals in the areas of the US who are taking this so serious and all pulling together to work as a team to ensure the safety of all.... including animals! Some of the communities are flying the animals currently in shelter out of State to open the shelters up for the pets in that area that are in need of shelter.

But still pretty rough. Hopefully the predictions are accurate, and it doesn't make landfall anywhere else. It must be a nightmare in the Bahamas.

The news people are showing some videos from the Bahamas. The airport is under water as are several homes. They showed inside a home on the second floor the water slamming against the sliding glass door. As far as they know 5 in the Bahamas have died, one being a 7 yr old boy and his sister is still missing.

Dorian is starting to break up around the eye, which is good news. Winds have gone down to 115mph, also good... for the US, not for the Bahamas because they are still getting pounded.

What would totally terrify me is to have so much of your island and country gone. Sea, sea, and nothing but sea. THAT would seriously terrify me.
What if it doesn't resurface, which someone mentioned is a possibility.
We had a huge flooding here in '53 and the entire province I now live in was submerged, and parts of other areas too. As it's tidal it goes up and down, during high tide having some 3-5 meters water, twice a day for lord knows how long.
It took forever to close the gaps in the dykes and for the water to go again, but a place like Bahamas I suppose doesn't have any protection.
And even though we're a small country, at least there was more of it that was dry. They couldn't get there during the flood, but at least they knew it was there.
The Bahamas barely have that luxury. It's a mere 1/4 in size of my country which already is small. Creepy thoughts.
Hope their nightmare is going to end soon and the danged thing moves away...

Thanks it's been a high stress week
So happy to see everyone pulling together and being ready... now even though it's not over... Floridians are more worried about Bahamas and how we can get them help❤

I mentioned something about this is another thread. When I was at lunch my boss came in the lunchroom to announce he's collecting things for donations. This is one thing I love about the place I work. Anytime there's a need with the islanders around us the resort and those here are ready to help and find a way to send things over to those in need.

I have a bunch of clothing and some food I haven't opened yet... a few things I got in case we got hit, so now I can pass that stuff on to the ones that really need it.

Dorian is now a cat 2, 110 mph, and moving NW at 3 mph. Looks like the Bahamas will be getting a break soon!

First footage of damage and destruction of the Bahamas... How on earth are they ever going to build that up? It's unbelievable. Where do you start? Totally shocking to see and think of all that was lost.
I hope they are resilient people, and that the whole world is going to pitch in.

They are already setting up donation sites in the Keys, Crystal, and the Red Cross is on board with helping.

It will take quite a while to rebuild, much like the Keys when Irma hit, only worse with how long it stayed there. Back then the feeling "how will we ever rebuild" was very prominent in a lot of minds. It was unbelievable the amount of devastation, especially in the Middle Keys where I am now. I remember driving through the Keys and seeing all the debris piled high along the highway. Homes, boats, trees, and buildings being wiped out/gone and some laying in the highway.

It will be a lot worse for those in the Bahamas... If they are anything like the people here in the Keys, they are definitely resilient people. They'll start with one piece at a time and go from there. It was amazing to see the entire community here working to rebuild two years ago... I'm sure it will be the same there.
