Has anyone heard about this. Some towns have a box of used books where you can take a book and leave a book. People build this on their lawn by the driveway and it's been going for years. This is the greatest thing. It promotes reading.

I've read about this in newspapers a few years back. I found one of these free libraries in my town by accident, just driving around. I donate used books.

Yes, we have that at the local library and at our hospital lobby! I think itโ€™s a great idea think drinker

Thanks Dee. I look for used books all the time.

Someday they will become a thing of the past...some of our libraries are closing because of E books and things like that...tears

Hopefully no, Dee. I love book stores.

I'm really talking about people who do this outside by their driveways.

We have it here. many of them are in the old disused iconic red telephone boxes in small town and villages.

I don't see why the ones in a hospital don't count?
My fysiotherapist has one of such book exchanges in their waiting room. Anyone can walk in to get a book.

Beautiful things are done by people sometimes :)
I also like it when they have stands with fruits or pumpkins in fall. You have to pay a little for them, but what's so beautiful: there's no one at the stand. It's just trusting ppl will pay and not nick the money out of the can.

We have free book exchanges here too, in hospitals and libraries.
Usually if I see someone with books on the lawn or driveway, it is for a tag sale.
I think book exchanges are a great idea.

Anyone seen the movie 'book of eli'
It's one of the last books left in the world, and it's in Braille?

It is a lovely idea.
I usually check out 15 books a week at my local library
but we have dozens of used book stores here, Oregon is
the best-read state in the union, so they say ;-)
