Based on the trilogy His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman. There won't be any more movies as it didn't get good critics for whatever reason. I loved it! I truly felt it was great!

Then I Googled it and learnt that the books got banned, mostly in the US, due to church???????? WTF???? Catholic church mainly feels it promotes atheism (so what?) and anti-church feelings. What???
I couldn't believe it! America truly is a land where everything is possible I suppose, haha. I don't think church could pull it off here to get books or movies banned.
Certainly not Catholic church, they lost their power ages ago, and quite rightfully so. Christian church (reformed) still has a big say in stuff unfortunately, but I doubt it'd be enough to ban books.
I was seriously shocked to read it.
And pleasantly touched to see Amazon sells the books.

Now I'm not really a reader anymore of fiction otherwise I'd get them. I'd love to know how the story unfolds...
I may still get my chance as apparently BBC1 & HBO are about to present a series on this trilogy, without leaving out the parts to make it easier to digest for church like they did in the movie.
Good for them.
If it comes out, I will watch!

Okay, that is possible.
school run by church... Unreal, hihi.
We've had that here too in the past, I think the schools were then run by nuns. But that's quite the time ago, before I was born for the most part.
OMG I'm getting old? Hahaha.

Hihi, over here Catholic churches are struggling. I believe many have gone and/or are now used for exhibitions and whatnot.
Catholic churches can barely get people to come to church anymore, been like that for years. I guess there will be some smaller villages where older people still go but in general Catholic church is deteriorating here.
Reformed churches is different, unfortunately. We got a few die-hard bible belts even, also in the area I'm living, a few islands further south.
For some reason I've ended up in reformed areas my entire adult life, hihi. Seen people go to church wearing straw hats noway I didn't know that existed anymore, grin.

I seen The Golden Compass many years ago and waited for so long for a second movie. When I recently seen a preview for the HBO series I was so excited that I had to tell my ex about it since he felt the same way about the movie as I did.

They DID make a series of it: His Dark Materials.
I watched the 1st episode, it takes a bit getting used to a different cast. No more Daniel Craig ( ) but James McAvoy, I'm not too keen on this new Lyra girl, but I will keep watching for now, curious to see if it's going to be any good.
I believe there's already 2 seasons and a 3rd one on the way, so I suppose it's good.
