why come online when you can buy what you want

Seems pretty obvious.
What's more validating:
1. Buying something for yourself
2. Someone giving you a gift.

You ever been to a retail store or fast food restaurant lately?
You ever encounter those people that treat their job like their fiefdom, where they have to show they have the power, it's about them not you?
Where they are hanging out with their friends at work and you wanting to buy something is like an interruption of their day?
The bad attitude and poor service?

Where is commerce going?
Walmart and Amazon. Everything under one roof, or never having to leave the house, just click it and have it delivered.
Convenience. Immediate gratification.

"Why come online when you can buy what you want?"
Because internet "dating" is just Amazon with each profile just a sellers page advertising a sexually objectified product.
And it's "free" to order online and see if anything decent is delivered. If they don't immediately deliver what you want, just click on the next product.

I'm going to assume you're saying "lust" rather than "last."
And I'd argue that it's not really love or lust.
It's mostly boredom and deprivation.
People are isolating themselves. Having focused too much on the crap advise that was pushed "stay in school! Focus on your education and career! You can always settle down later!"
So they did...unfortunately that meant never really putting effort in learning how to make friends, develop, support, or maintain relationships.

People are herd/group people. It's a "need" that drives them, constantly looking for social validation, purpose, and gratification.

Focus on being independent and a worker drone?
IMO it's the same as wandering through the desert, stranding yourself on a desert island.
You become deprived.
Then what happens? People look to overcompensate. To get as much at once as possible.
When you're starving, truly starving, or dying of thirst, when you get back to civilization do you stop and plan for your long term nutrition and health? Or do you try to cram as much in as possible, drink as much as possible, all at once, with the most gratifying food or liquid you can get your hands on?
IMO "lust" is just the tool social deprivation is using to motivate people to find someone else. And this is the consequence. Kind of like when people drowning end up drowning/killing their rescuer in their struggles to reach the surface and get air.
