I wasn't familiar with this term until recent years when I met a couple of religious guys who supported this method of learning. One of them even had her daughter homeschooled (After the sixth grade I believe), which causes her a lot of Problems now since no one is accepting her in any Job without a proper education and papers.
The three families happen to be evangelical. I don't know if that is a coincidence, or if These guys have something against modern education and sceince. The Question is that: Is homeschooling something you may consider based on your religious Background. If yes, why?

My brother home schooled all his 10 children. All are adults other than 2. 2 girls became nurses 1 boy became a diesel mechanic and the other girls worked for a church and now stay at home moms with children. Florida has 3 accredited home schools. Kids nowadays dont have to go to regular public schools. As long as you can pass ged tests you can work or go to school. Homeschooling is not based on religion as far as i know. Its a personal choice. Schools nowadays seems to be dangerous to go to. Especially when you see shootings in the news.

I believe there is accredited paperwork involved in accepted homeschooling programs.
The kids still have to pass all the tests and are subject to reviews by the school system.
Like Sheri said, homeschooling is not just for religious reasons. However it is also not just for safety reason either.
I met 3 different homeschooled families during my life.
All three had children who far exceeded the grade requirements because the parents made sure their children learned.
Homeschooling is a choice that requires steady dedication on the part of the parents.
I met guys in the military that were homeschooled.
They were intelligent, practical and friendly.
I've also met homeschooled people that were essentially in-bred slugs.
It all depends on the dedication of the parents.

I prefer homeschooling because I live in Las Vegas where basically most of the public schools suck. As others have said, it does not have to be about religion or safety, just about what a parent thinks will work best for their child.

There are requirements and accreditation which has the children taking the same state tests as the public school tests do. I do not know about IVY LEAGUE type colleges, but I believe that this schooling is considered as valid as any other for college purposes.

Now I get it, it's not only about religious reasons (or in your cases wasn't even about religion ). Safety concerns and keeping the kids away from some social diseases like drugs contribute to this decision as well. But should the homeschooled kids learn the same materials taught in schools ? Or is it up to them to learn whatever they wish as long as they're gonna apply for the same test ? In the cases I wrote about, the kids had learning materials selected by their parents.

Actually they have classes online where the child has a teacher and teaches them and they have to turn in their homework per the site..

But even prior Homeschooling is not for all.. They still have to learn what they would in school. Many prefer homeschooling due to they don't agree with the schools, Religion ect..

Myself I fell it isolates kids too much~~

But they still earn a Degree just like the ones that go to school.. Then of course if they want to go to College now days many of the classed are online. Which you take and turn in your work per the site and time frame. But even then there are some classes they will have to take at the College regardless..

Well you're mixing homeschooling with virtual or distance learning in the higher education. Aren't you ?

Homeschooling is when kids are taught education within the home.. Regardless if it is online or not, as long as no classes are outside of the home it is Homeschooling.
