Why do slugs come into my kitchen at night time?
Any ideas? Weird little sliders obviously get through the catdoor or under the door. But why?:thinking::thinking:

Can’t answer that but will say I had that problem in a house I lived in. There was a shrub directly underneath the bedroom window and they came in through the window and left their slimy trails. Yuck!

Probably just hunting for food, I get them in my kitchen from time to time.

Well they have to slide up stairs, no shrubs around. I am baffled. Could they be hiding from the hedgehogs. After all they seem to be nightcrawlers?

I get them coming up gaps in skirting boards in the kitchen. Maybe it's food smells, veges, or tiles, I don't know why.

They don't look though. They just hang around the kitchen door, which leads to outside and are gone in the morning...scared

Weird huh? I actually really want to know their motivation. Do slugs have motivation? Perhaps they want warmth?

I once put a smallish slug in my slug gun - air rifle, and fired it. Man it stunk after that. I'm sure the slug wasn't too impressed either, it was never seen again.

I heard a tray of beer will attract them and they get drunk and drown, same as with cockroaches. Salt kills them but they leave a mess.

I've lived in a very dank house when I was 18-ish. We had them indoors downstairs. We never saw any, but plenty of glistening trails every morning. I think they're night creatures as it's safer for them --> no sun to dry them out and nights are moister.
In another house I've found them in the catfood bowl, almost puked my guts out.
There they sometimes were IN the loo as well? SO bleeping gross! I always checked before sitting down after that.
When my ex placed another kitchen we saw that the wall was very wet.

Here I had one 2x in the hallway. I saw it when I had my bathroom break at night. I threw it out.
And then I found silvery trails in my kitchen cupboard where I kept the potatoes... I moved the potatoes to another place and threw plenty of slug poison behind the kitchen backplate.
Have not seen any since.

They don't come in to stay warm, they don't need warmth or dryness, it'd kill them.
Having certain plants close to your door might not be handy, some plants are a delicacy, like hostas.
They need but a very small gap to enter a home. I'd get some poison or use salt. You wouldn't want an infestation of the creepy things indoors.

They can smell pet food from far away if they are coming in the house.. Or they are just coming on for the shelter..

In order to keep them from it make sure there are no gaps if so caulk or fill them in...

You can put a layer of salt down but that will actually kill them if they cross it.. and it will wash away..

You can actually buy Copper Tape put it down in a pattern by where they are coming in they will not cross it....

2 runs of copper or metal tape, connected to a small battery, like 1.5 volts, and they don't cross it, 'cause they are wet and good conductors, and don't like even low voltage currents. I saw that years ago and forgot it. It slows down snails and millipedes too.

I awoke in the night once (I am blind as a bat) and saw a huge
black 'something' on the ceiling..scared the begeezus out of me.

In the morning it was gone, but left that trail, which went back
to the sink drain, through which they were crawling! Sealed that
up and no more slugs.

Try leaving your slimy friends some beer outside near the point of entry over night

Motivation? food ,attracted to smell.
