I thought our email was private and would not be shown. I am receiving emails from people I have not communicated with on here. Our email address should not be a public thing. This is NOT a good thing. Why is this happening?

Did you go to your account settings - E mail preferences? There you can set limits, who can contact you.

If your talking about your personal e-mail the site never shares that at all..

If your talking about the e-mails on this site then anyone can e-mail you through this site.. Unless you set your filters..

Is this someone to whom you have NOT given
your personal email?

M2 passes those on to NO-ONE so if you are
receiving emails there you should contact Support:

Yes, I receive a Mingle notification when someone has sent me a Mingle message, but never any email at my personal address from Mingle users...Mingle has never given my personal email to anyone...
