I feel it's a two way street. If it feels right then do it. Today's society is nothing like how it was 40 + years ago. Maybe country or small town but so much in larger centers.
40 plus years ago we had sex all the time on first "encounters." No need for dates. Then herpes and HIV happened. All of a sudden you needed to think beyond the moment.
