Dogs are canines.
Canines are carnivorous.
If you think about what a wolf eats, you have a good idea of what your dog needs to eat.

Dogs eat raw meat (best while still on the bone), the bloodier the better. Organ foods like liver and heart.
They also need bones, not those rawhide chews, real bone.
Raw eggs, slightly cooked veggies with meat juices or blood dripped on them.
Believe it or not, fruits too.

There's a podcast where you can get diet tips for your dog.

I had two full size yellow labs and two mid-size American Eskimos.
We fed them Purina Chow but supplemented with raw meat diet.

Wolf Tucker http://www.wolftucker.co.uk/wolftucker-raw-feeding-guide/ Lists the benefits of a raw diet and talks about the myths and concerns

Just some of the physical benefits of a raw dog food diet can be as follows:

Cleaner teeth and fresh breath
Better weight control
Improved digestion
Shinier, healthier skin and coat
Reduction of allergy symptoms
Harder, smaller, less smelly stools
Increased mobility in older animals
More energy and stamina
Strengthened immune system
Improved liver, pancreatic and bowel health
Savings due to less trips to the vet

Try to remember its a dog, not a person.

Yes!
Long ago and far away when I raised German Shepherds I feed them a lot of rabbits. My vet always commented on their health and for several years I was contracted to the Air Force and they were always happy with my pups.

I have been making my own breadsticks for dogs. I use applesauce, cinnamon, flour, oats, and peanut butter. It is pretty simple. Eggs can also be used in the recipe. I bake them and leave them in the oven to dry out.

I bake my dogs homemade biscuits. I use canned pure pumpkin, oat flour, ground flax seed, natural peanut butter, parsley, psyllium husk, baking powder, water.
