Is there a way to reduce the number of contacts that are not legit?

It's free and easy to set up an account, so I assume that we have only to police the system ourselves... that's how it is on every other site, so I imagine it's the same here. It's frustrating though... I have yet to actually chat with someone who is not a spam/scam profile.

How do I know if a member is a scammer?

We do our best to make sure scammers are kept off of our site. Unfortunately, all social sites are home to incidents where one member asks another user for money. If money is exchanged, of course, the asking party disappears. If a member asks for financial assistance, he or she is almost 100% certain to be a scammer. NEVER send money to another user on Mingle2 and NEVER pay another's way.

What should I do if I suspect that a Mingle2 user is a scammer?

Please report the member by using our 'Report Abuse' system. We will investigate the account and ban it, if appropriate. You can report a member by clicking the REPORT THIS USER link in his or her profile or the Report Abuse/Spam link near the bottom of any mail he or she has sent. Finally, this can be done using the form at the link below. For the sake of accuracy, you may want to copy and paste the member's user name when using this form.

Set your filters for e-mail makes a big difference.. I set mine for within 50 miles of where I live and ages.. Helps a lot..

An easy system is a verification process. New profiles provide a photo holding up a sheet pf paper with a system generated message on it, matched to IP address maybe. 99% of accounts I reckon are either African scammers or spam bots trying to get you to sign up to another site.

The site maybe free, but as a subscriber I will not renew my subscription and will be closing down my account soon. Enough is enough

Scammers are on every dating site; not just this one.

I was previously on a paying dating site and they were on there too!

And, there is a beginner's guide up here for new users. If people would just read it, maybe scammers could be isolated, because they seem to thrive on the despairation of people to find a partner

IP adresses were mentioned as well. This might not work, since some internet providers use a flexible IP address.

No system you can specify will be foolproof...and it ends up with the site incurring costs which would ultimately end the "FREE" Mingle

Costs a member nothing to use good judgement and common sense...it will never be white glove clean, so get over it and just move on...

*I* am their "target" audience...older, overweight, not much to look at, lonely...
And yet *I* can spot 'em right away..with their BS intitial messages...
I have a way to out them that works 100% of the time, but can't post it in here....
But, yeah...I've never let one go past the first message or two...
Plus (hope they let *this* stay)..reverse image search is a wonderful thing..
