I pick my very favorite music by the goose bump test -even though I might like other stuff for one reason or another.

Some songs never fail to give me goose bumps.

The way too short guitar solo in "We Will Rock You", for example. Literally every time.

Hell yes, We Will Rock You is always reason to turn up the volume of your sound system!

This week we could vote for the annual top 2000 and because of that they played songs we normally don't hear anymore. Like Abba and... The Beatles.
I hadn't heard a Beatle song for years. And fine by me.
When I was voting myself just now I noticed how I could easily select a ton of Police songs, hihi. They made so many great songs! And the drummer is amazing!

which one do you think

Why do people compare their top bands to the Beatles? Why didn't you compare Queen to the Grateful Dead or Led Zeppelin?

I'll tell you why. The Beatles are the benchmark. Their musical canon and influence are unrivalled. People have different ears and tastes. Like whatever you want. The sheer volume of the Beatles catalog made them the most successful composers in centuries.

D'oh...

Don't get me wrong. I loved Queen since the first moment I heard them back in '73 which is undoubtedly before you were born.

P.S. It's a silly question

P.P.S. Ask Brian May who he thinks is better

Great answer and very well put, there's no comparison!

It's like comparing Alvin and the Chipmunks to the Eagles.

In honesty I should add that I think Queen sucks for the most part, I don't mind "Fat bottom girls" but the rest is mindless drivel. If I'm listening to radio and "we will rock you" or the idiotic "bohiemian rapsody" comes on I immediately change stations, hate that crap.
Don't get me wrong, Brain May is a great guitarist but as soon as I laid eyes on Freddie Jupiter or what ever his name has I thought "I wouldn't want to be near this thing without a Hazmat suit on".

It amuses me how everyone is compared to the Beatles. You'd think that in itself would be a tell. I am not as down on Queen as you, though. I did like their first couple of albums. I even saw them live twice. Once when they were opening for Mott The Hoople who I MUCH preferred. The second time was at Avery Fisher Hall, I think... Long time ago.

Anyway, they were quite good live. Very tight. However, the second time I saw them Mercury came on stage dressed in nothing but a flaming red girdle. FFS... It was really distracting and not in the slightest bit endearing or entertaining. Never wanted to see them again.

I donโ€™t see any comparison between the Beatles and Queen. I think a better comparison would be The Beatles vs. Elvis, more in the same time frame, both had extensive catalog of songs. Both were equally as big in their respective countryโ€™s.

The Beetles were ground breaking geniuses. Wrote countless truly classic songs, that are still being played, and covered. All of the fab four went on to write and perform individually, successfully.
Where as I can only think of two Queen songs. Not in the same ball park.
