My gf goes for her second dose tomorrow.
My son told me he had his second dose a few weeks ago and felt pain in his chest and back for a day or two but it went away on its own.
I don't know which vacc they had.
The VA is pestering me to get mine.
I'm on the fence about the whole thing.
Not only is my health not so good I have respiratory problems like copp and bronchitis. I also have diabetes.
I used to get the flu shot every year. Four years ago I had a very severe reaction to it and stopped getting it.
There's a few 'logical arguments' which also keep me on the fence about getting a covid vacc.
The first factor is the number of vaccs available. When you get a vacc shot, in the past its "the vacc shot" for that particular condition. You get a flu shot, its "the flu shot" not one formula of many possible formulas. When you get a tetanus shot its "the tetanus shot" not one of multiple formulas. The fact there is not 'one' established, go to formula makes me think something is wrong in all the formulas, otherwise there would only be one.
The next thing is the fact there are so many different strains of covid and its still mutating. Its not like a conveyor belt of covid recipients getting vacc with the same formula. Next, shot, next shot, next, shot.
Plus, you might get the vacc for one strain and 6 months later need to get a different shot for the next regional strain. Plus with no end in sight, there's no telling how many strains might pop up in untold years.
Then there's the red dye #5 scenario. Red dye $5 was used in consumer products until we found out it was bad for you. There used to be lead pain in houses till we found out it was toxic over long duration. Asbestos as well.
Covid vacc is a fast developed, fast distributed fix for a multiple strain mutating pathogen. Its only been a couple years at most. We can't know what the long term effects of these vaccs on the human condition.
Ten years from now are they going to be dealing with a mass population problem caused by these vaccs? Nobody really knows, there hasn't been enough time.
Personally, its fear.
If I get covid, I know it will kill me. My health is bad enough to cause me to wonder if I will survive today let alone years.
If I get the vacc for the current strain, not only might I have adverse reaction to it causing me to die, I could be exposing my body to something on purpose which has the potential to kill me. I'm already doing that by smoking. To me, it would be adding another type of coffin nail to my daily life.
Nothing I've read, watched, heard or consulted convinces me the vacc is safe...for me. I'm not against vaccs. Never had a problem making sure my family was current on their vaccinations, I kept current on mine till 4 years ago.
I just have too many unanswered questions.
I didn't get the bird flu shot.
I didn't get the swine flu shot.
I didn't stop eating beef because of the mad cow's disease.
I see my VA doc in July.
I'll talk with him again about the covid vacc.
If he can alleviate my fears, I'll get the shots.
I just currently believe I should wait till we can see how this is all gunna settle.
Which shot truly is 'the shot'.
HI Tom .. I am
Sure there are lots of people that still have reservations about covid vaccines and that is quite understandable . Did you know the first Pfizer vaccine was administered in dec 2020 . So we now have 5 months worth of reliable safety data with little evidence that the pfizer vaccine is harmful . Info surrounding immunity is still being assessed and as time passes more questions will be answered . Pfizer are working on a booster to cover recent mutations .. but that is not surprising to me and does not detract from the efficacy of the vaccine .
Worldwide 1.56 billion people have received a covid vaccine .. that is a great achievement as vaccination rollouts continue to escalate .
As for you personally .. I can understand if you have had past reactions to vaccines why you might be reluctant . Allergic Reactions can vary . If you have had a reaction In the past that required adrenaline .. that would indicate a severe reaction . Such a reaction would occur quickly . Which is why it is important to remain in the clinic for 20 mins following vaccine for monitoring . Vaccinators have the equipment and skills to recognise and treat anaphylaxis should it occur . The risk of a life threatening anaphylaxis really is small .
Some clinics in America are offering allergy testing but for most this is unnecessary and really doesnβt give an absolute guarantee that an allergic reaction will not occur . Have you looked at the Pfizer vaccine ingredients???
Your medical history places you in a high risk group if you were to be infected with covid . Weighing benefits against risk may help you to decide what is in your best interest . Hopefully your own doctor will be able to put your mind at ease .
My experience with covid vaccination. ( Pfizer ) has been positive .
There is high demand for the vaccine in New Zealand ., especially amongst health professionals and front line staff . Rollout of General population vaccination is due to start in June/July but already there are concerns circulating about vaccine shortages .
I am not sure if there are supply issues looming In the states .
Best of luck whatever your decision . Stay well x
