From USA Today, 17 February 2021:

"One Republican official in Pennsylvania said Toomey was not sent to Congress "to do the right thing." Washington County Republican Chair Dave Ball ripped on Toomey for justifying his vote to convict Trump on the charge of inciting the violent Jan. 6 riot at the United States Capitol."

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2021/02/16/pat-toomey-faces-censure-over-impeachment-vote-republican-party/6759842002/

The fallout from this story ought to be entertaining.

I'm going to sit back with root beer and popcorn and see what happens.

Seems to me the voters in next election should be the ones giving thumbs up or down, not the legislators. Then again I've seen politics described as a blood sport. Maybe that's what makes following politics so durned much fun.

Of course there will be repercussions for all seven Republicans who voted to convict Trump.
Cowardice was a huge factor why most Republicans did not have the courage to vote Trump guilty. I am surprised the backlash towards the seven has not become hate/violent, as yet.

Good on him for voting with his conciense.

Show me a politician who is? They are the Government, not a religious institution where ethics is supposed to be paramount...

Don’t forget Mitch Notlooking. I think he is done when his term is up.. I don’t think cowardice had anything to do with the one who held steadfast with their beliefs. It had more to do with how you view the minutes leading up to the protest on the Capitol on January 6th. I on the other hand think the seven were mostly trying to appease the Democrats.

Only if you’re getting all of your information from the television. They have the appearance of being in opposition to each other, like two sides of a coin. But heads or tails, they are both a piece of copper. It’s no different than the staged dramatics of professional wrestling: back stage they’re slapping each other on the backs and having a beer together. Were it not so, we would not always be heading, inexorably, in the same general direction, regardless of who is voted in or out. There are a few exceptions, now and then, who might run under the Republican or Democrat name just to get elected: like Ron Paul, for instance. Both parties always ignored his many pleas to bring an end to our undeclared wars in foreign countries, in spite of their showmanship before the cameras. For all of their good rhetoric about bringing our troops home, both parties really wanted our troops over there, and still do, because the military-industrial complex wants it, and that’s how they stay in office. Remember this: government is good at getting what it wants. Nothing that has happened has come to pass by accident or happenstance. We are where we are because both parties are two faces of the same party. It’s the Hegelian Dialectic. Nothing more.

I'm troubled when EVERY member of either party vote identically.

Are they ALL really voting their conscience and representing their constituents or are they really protecting their political career because the the wolves in sheep's clothing who are the party leaders will eliminate them from the herd?

I again agree with Notlooking and to the merits of the above post. Something that has always troubled me regarding Trump; almost all poloticians at the least will claim they have an agenda. They will have reasons why they can improve our government, our way of life, etc. But Trump never did; from the start Trump just wanted to improve his brand value. He even said "I'm going to give them the greatest infomercial in history".
Knowing this I can't comprehend how any thinking person could support him let alone vote for him to lead us!
Sadly it's our country and citizens who have paid the price of his little experiment. I'm sure he has clinched his place in history as America's worst president ever but myself, hundreds of thousands of unneeded Covid dead and the seven that died in or as a result of his attempt to overthrow our government could have done without it.

Aidtrao , You are exactly right. These seven rhinos know the only laws or policies getting passed for the next two years are going to be liberal policies, like it or not things will be getting done. Mostly bad policies I’m sure but two years is a long time for people to remember who did this or who did that. There’s also the fact that had they not voted to impeach Trump they would be labeled a nazi or white supremist Maybe these rhinos think they can turn Trump supporters in their districts
After all they are Trump haters.

Oh my witness, somebody mark the calendar! I think we all just found an inch of common ground. Maybe there’s hope that people all over the spectrum can unite in solidarity against them all, one day, and turn our backs on the whole damn lot of them. At any rate, I thank you all for the moral encouragement.

I like that...turn our backs on the lot of them. :grinning:

No governments, just chaos, which we already have in a 'limited' measure.

I am off to buy an island now...

You missed your chance in 2016 because Chaos is exactly the description of the way the Democrats treated the Trump administration for every second of his 4 years in office. I’m sure you will see it differently.

I think if there were magically no government tomorrow, there would be some chaos for a little while, until people got over the shock and figured out how to be responsible for themselves and work together independently. But I really believe that, ultimately, most of us who didn’t become basket cases would figure out how to get by without bureaucracy. People would volunteer to work together with their neighbors, when problems arose in their communities, for their mutual benefit, because it’s natural. If Antifa comes to your town, like in Couer d’Alene, the menfolk get their guns and take their positions. They don’t wait for someone in uniform to let the thugs destroy the town and arrest the locals for not staying in their houses. It’s so much simpler, you see, when you just solve the problem yourself. What did Reagan say? “The most terrifying nine words in the English language are, ‘I’m from the government, and I’m here to help.’”

oh this is on the riot....trump calls for rally what a month in advance?

his idea is to show support for himself and the stolen election idea....sneaky globalists who in my opinion probably do anything to 'win" given the chance devise an idea to stymie the rally...

really not hard to figure out that you can put some bad guys in there and provoke trumpsters to ill doing....

like follow the money look at the results...who won that day?

ever hear of false flag attack? framing someone? 911, iraq war, gulf of tonkin incident just to name a few u.s. ones...

so why impeach a guy ? because he is popular and they are trying to do away with him...simple...

and onto different sides of the same coin...all are corporatists now, all but trump were globalists...i am hoping he has started the nationalist revolution in the u.s.
