Since Friday, 19 Mar, 2021, mainstream media has been running reports slamming DC Circuit Court Judge Laurence Silberman for his views :

“The increased power of the press is so dangerous today because we are very close to one-party control of these institutions. One party control of the press and the media is a threat to a viable democracy.

Two of the three most influential papers (at least historically) The New York Times and The Washington Post are virtually Democratic Party broadsheets... Nearly all television, network and cable is a Democratic Party trumpet. Even the government supported National Public Radio follows along.

Now you may echo 'the NYT v. Sullivan case' justifying malicious reporting against public figures and protection against libel under free speech. To this Silberman wrote, “Justice Thomas has already persuasively demonstrated that New York Times was a policy-driven decision masquerading as constitutional law,” the judge wrote.

Leaving aside the NYT case - matter for learned judges - on the larger picture Silberman is as we know, undeniably right: the orchestrated effort by all mainstream media concentrated in one direction.

There are several insightful comments by the Judge and the one that hits at social media is:

Repression of political speech by large institutions with market power…is—I say this advisedly—fundamentally un-American,” Silberman wrote. “As one who lived through the McCarthy era, it is hard to fathom how honorable men and women can support such actions.”

Facebook & Privacy Laws
The Associated Press - February 26, 2021

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — U.S. District Judge James Donato A federal judge on Friday approved a $650 million settlement of a privacy lawsuit against Facebook for allegedly using photo face-tagging and other biometric data without the permission of its users.

This case was filed Illlinois in 2015 and wound up as a class action suit in California. Probably explains the 5 years delay in arriving at the ruling.

Facebook response:

“We are pleased to have reached a settlement so we can move past this matter, which is in the best interest of our community and our shareholders,” Facebook, which is headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area, said in a statement.

Interestingly, in India Facebook made it mandatory for all Whats-app users to join Facebook or forfeit their WA account within 3 months. Indian government has urged a Delhi court to restrain Facebook Inc.’s WhatsApp from implementing this controversial privacy policy. The court will hear the case on April 28.

Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Google and much of the MSM have become cartels controlling speech and information much the way cartels control drugs.

The big difference is drug cartels try to stop each other with violence while the information cartels work together to help a political party.
