Well I'm stuck in Wamsutter for the night. It's about 70 miles from Rock Springs, and only took me 3 and a half hours to get here surprised

Roads about thirty miles East of Rock Springs started getting nasty. High winds, blowing snow, and icy roads. I stopped at a rest area about 45 miles East of Rock Springs and the lady working there told me about an accident that was further East. Two truckers collided and the road had been closed for a few hours. It was turning around and going back 45 miles, or continuing East for about 25 to 30 miles for the next motel.

Between the rest area and the motel spot I was driving 10 to 15 mph. Roads were covered with ice. But I made it, didn't dare go any further. Next stop would have been another 38 miles and would have taken me over four hours to get there at that speed.

Rooms were tiny so I upgraded to the adorable little cottage. Figured if I'm going to be snowed in, I may as well be comfortable. bigsmile

And it wasn't much more than the room, so what the heck. It's a remote little town, not many restaurants... one Mexican, lol. And Loves Truck Stop, they usually have decent food. Plus I have breakfast and lunch fixins, so I'm all set for a cozy snowed in adventure. biggrin

Thank goodness for the truckstop, haha. There's only so much Mexican food one can eat. At least I'm not so keen on it.

Happy to hear you made the smart decision and found a great place to stay! Indeed best be comfortable if you cannot move on.
I hope you won't be snowed/iced in for too long!

If I may ask a question... just out of curiosity...
I learnt when my girl was in the US that many hotels & motels have bedbugs. Up till that moment I didn't know these existed for real. She said you have to check upfront if you want to know if it's rated clean.
Do you do that as well?

Thanks Crystal. Where I'm at right now is just a stop over, I won't be doing any sightseeing while I'm here. I stayed here on my way to the Teton National Park, so did get to enjoy the area then. I'll be heading out right after breakfast, shortly after 6am. There's a major storm heading this way so the goal is to get the heck out of here, haha.

Bedbugs can certainly be a concern in some of the motels, but not as much as people think. Of all the motels I've stayed in throughout my life, and there have been more than I can count, I've never ran across bedbugs. I've had some filthy rooms, but never little critters in the bed.

I usually read the reviews for all the places I stay at. The few that I didn't, and just went with it because it was so cheap, it's been about 50/50 as to how nice or bad the room was. Pretty much every motel has reviews. What I generally look for is are there more positive reviews than negative, what the negative comments are about, some people complain about stupid things. They want red carpet treatment for very little money. If the majority of the reviews are negative, and everyone is basically saying the same thing, then I take more stock in it and will avoid that place.

Makes sense to check, I was just curious :)
My girl did end up in a place that had bedbugs although it had claimed to be clean. And even though she'd already driven for hours on end, she left right away and continued driving. I didn't know at the time, she told me a while back. The nr of hours she drove that day/night were insane!! All because of bedbugs. Glad we don't have 'em although all creepy crawlers are closing in here in Europe too.

Didn't know you'd been there before. If Google is correct it has 2 Mexican restaurants, haha. I tend to check where you are on Google Maps, just to have a bit of an idea of where it is. I'm stalking you on Google, hahaha. Or more like virtually hitching a ride with you.

Yeah, I've stayed in places that claimed to be clean and holy cow what a dump they were.

I'm afraid I cannot help out with that...
Hopefully the next is a male admirer, hihi.

That would be great, only as an admirer in a good way. I feel blessed I've never had a stalker for real.

Tomorrow morning looks pretty good. I'll wait until daylight to decide. The road crew should be out tonight salting and plowing, there's more snow expected tonight. If I have to, I'll stay here another night, but hopefully that won't be necessary.

Ooh, that's driving in a horizontal line from Rock Springs. No wonder you weren't getting ahead of the weather.

Haha, I love google! When I looked at the radar, I saw a little patch of weather, but it didn't look big or like it was going to last long. I guess it grew!

I think Spirit wanted me to rest for an extra day. I have a nice tub and bubble bath, and wifi, so I'm good, lol.

I just checked, it should be clear and starting to be sunny around 8am. And there will only be up to 20mph wind gusts. Much better for driving.

Yes! And my room has photos of horses, I absolutely love horses!

A few others weren't so lucky, at least their cars weren't. They are still alive, so that's a blessing and a miracle. I passed by a car that had flipped over on the West bound side. While I was checking into the motel, he came in to get a room. He was a little scratched up, but otherwise fine. Then later, I saw the tow truck bring an entire family to the motel.

Everytime I've been through Wyoming, there are always knocked over trucks on the highway. It's the strong wind.

Hi cat, I'm sure there have been lots of times when it was due to the wind. Today, it was a combination of high winds and the roads covered with ice.

Lol, had I followed it correctly, I would have stayed in Rock Springs. Then I could have at least gotten a haircut and maybe coloring. Looks like I'm here for another night in a very remote town with nothing to do but chill, lol

On the other hand, since everything happens for a reason, perhaps I'm not to worry about my hair... just relax and be grateful I'm alive and well. I'm in a very peaceful town with little traffic and staying in a cute little cottage like room. love

Winter weather update... I-80 is closed in many spots between where I am now and where I want to go. A few accidents, and very bad road conditions. It's not expected to open back up again for 8 to 9 hours.

I won't be going anywhere until tomorrow... hopefully tomorrow!

Yep! Plus I don't really have a choice, lol. They shut down pretty much the entire highway, including the entrance onto the highway where I'm at.

The motel lady is going nuts with people getting mad that she has no vacancy. One lady just came in after me and was turned away. The poor lady will have to sleep in her call tonight, or hang out in the truck stop.

I should be able to at least get to Rawlins tomorrow... maybe, lol

It did look like a one-horse town on Google Maps, hihi. But hey, no haircut, but you got the truckstop and if it takes long you could still go for Mexican, hahaha.
And even though you may not have heeded intuition and stayed in Rock Springs... you DID get a room! The next one didn't, so yep, angels are watching over you!
