Fairy Tales for girls use to teach them things. As with stories such as these, in time, allowed you to learn them. In the past the envierment was different so it was easier for most. The truth is that, "Things don't change, people do".
An example is Little Red Riding Hood. We as adults know that the Wolf is a Jeffrey Dommer type. To kids it's listen to your mom and don't be stupid. The monkeys and useful idiots have been breaking things with hammers for years. Which is part of the problem. Grimm is a video game that talks about this.

Cinderella/Prince Charming Complex is being in love with the idea of love. So they marry anyone and it turns out badly. There's many Princess Stories for a reason. Not everyone's the same and you need to figure out who's the best fit for you.
Fairy Tales are about getting girls to deal with their emotions and make good choices. At least good stories are designed to do so. Girls tend to learn more from reading about things then boys. Boys tend to learn more by doing. This doesn't remove the need for reading, seeing and doing (RSD) for all children. It's just a way of focusing for teaching.
