thanks for that up date .
just saw the he was also involved in one of America's unsolved mysteries .... I think the young girl disappeared in the Netherlands in the late 80... while on holiday .....

Indeed. The Natalee Holloway case. She disappeared on holiday in Aruba. I cannot recall all the details, I do know he investigated it to great length, went to Aruba for that too. He helped get the one that did it, but I believe she was never found.
Natalee Holloway De Vries was instrumental in bringing about the conviction of Joran van der Sloot for the murder of Natalee Holloway after he used hidden cameras to record Joran confessing to his role in the girl’s death to a friend. That 2008 confession led the Aruban authorities to reopen the investigation into the 2005 death. The programme won De Vries an Emmy.

Reading that now, I recall him doing that, the hidden cameras etc. (it was on telly)

He helped solve many more cases of youngsters disappearing and/or getting killed, sometimes years later. One was a Dutch boy that was taken from the tent he was sleeping in and killed.
Peter helped get the culprit 20 years later!

And he's been involved in real heavy chit stuff as well. It's truly amazing he wasn't attacked sooner as he put his nose in 'big boys' business many times.
Truly a remarkable man.
I hope he recovers without any permanent damage.

Very sad news... Peter passed away today.
His loved ones were there.
Maybe for the best. Had he recovered with serious brain damage...
But it's very very sad...

I hope he at least made a peaceful transition.

The one who's behind it IS in jail but he arranged it from there. They also got the dude who shot him and the getaway driver.
I also hope they don't get off lightly, which would be typically Dutch.

Leniency is not only a Dutch thing !!
The criminal justice systems in first world countries , need to be drastically revised and updated ... but to do so we have to deal with the corruption ,in politics and with the self serving politicians themselves.... in other words, nothing changes !!!

Yeah and it would require more prisons. We don't have that many. I think all they've been doing for a few decades now is cut back on justice and law enforcement. Like if the police have reason to take you with them for questioning and it's going to take longer... they take you to prison where the bad criminals are too!?
In the past they used to keep you in a temp jail in the police station but they don't got those anymore. Not sure but I believe after hours the police station is closed.
Fewer blue in the streets (officers), and the one big prison in Breda where I've lived was closed a number of years back and I don't think a new one was built.
We have a very low rate of ppl in prison which is A) we don't have enough prisons and B) the sent ppl home with an anklet and C) other stupid things like not convicting at all.

So I couldn't agree more. In 2016 the 29 yr old daughter of a friend got hit on her motor bike by a guy that was so terribly drunk he could've partied another week on the amount of alcohol in his body. He had NO drivers license, drove too fast, and did a hit and run.
The woman died on the spot, her partner who'd sat behind her was taken to hospital with trauma heli, it's a miracle he made it as he was very badly wounded. By the time he regained consciousness the love of his life had already been buried...

I believe the w@nker got a few years to which he appealed, and again got a few yrs only, not allowed to drive for a few years (he didn't even have a license?!).
Then they deduct the time he'd been in prison awaiting verdict, meaning 1 year in prison and he's free again. (which has already happened) That's for 3 offenses, 1 of which basically murder.
Devastating for the family.

Problem is, there are so many really bad criminals, WTF do you do with 'em? Re-introduce death penalty? Might work, but I'm not a fan. Yet, may be the only solution...
