If you care about freedom of choice and using alternative medicine & therapy as well when needed, please sign this petition when American!

In Massachusetts they have introduced a bill to make all alternative therapy illegal! Signing can help prevent this from happening in other US states.

We need societies where we can choose between alternative and medical science, and preferably have them work hand in hand.
In general, for the acute we need medical science, for the chronic it's alternative. We can't lose one of these, and millions around the globe regained their health or are doing well because of the alternative while western medicine couldn't help them.
I'm one of them.

A bill in Massachusetts proposes new regulations that would immediately make all unlicensed professionals in health, well-being, and related fields illegal. This of course is a potential threat to many of our Certified EEM practitioners. A strong outpouring of negative comments would not only support our colleagues in Massachusetts, it would also discourage politicians in other states from introducing similar legislation. PLEASE sign the petition opposing this bill!

The URL should lead to where you can sign. I cannot myself as I'm not in the US.

The link doesn't work Crystal. I tried posting the link I found on FB, but it didn't work either.

This law is already in effect in several other States. So it's not an entirely new law that is being introduced which will set the precedent for other States to do the same. They are already doing it. Actually, there are very few States that don't have this law. In order to practice Reiki or other energy healing methods, you are required to get a massage therapy license or be a registered nurse in that State, especially when practicing for money.

I was going to do start a Reiki practice in Florida, as well as other things, but found out I can't.. Florida classifies Reiki as a form of massage, therefore you have to be licensed.

The petition touches on a good point. The primary reason for this law being put into effect is to stop human trafficking. That's a completely flawed approach to stopping crime. Criminals are capable of becoming licensed. Why not shut down all laundromats as well, they too are often used as fronts for criminal behavior! slaphead

I will look more into it later today, thanks Crystal for sharing this info with us.

I’m not seeing where it would make it illegal, but require licensing. Apparently,
this is an attempt to stop criminal activity, such as human trafficking, that some of these
β€œpractices” often use as fronts. Is there another bill out there to make these illegal?

From what I read, it only makes it illegal if you don't have a license. It's not making the practice itself illegal. Anyone who chooses to practice Holistic medicine can do so, they just need to go through the proper channels to become licensed. The same as others in medical/health related fields.

Personally, I see no issue with needing a license to practice any medical technique?
One benefit from this is with a license, it becomes a profession and would be subject to insurance coverage.
This would open up the avenue to people seeking alternative medicine.
On the down side, it could be subjected to charges which would drive the cost of using such practices higher.
It would also allow for law-suits and legal issues which would be supported by specific laws requiring the practicing entity to purchase higher insurance coverage.

I've met general practitioners who use holistic methods along with scientific methods to treat their patients...often cases relating to stress related illnesses. They focus on treating the 'whole' patient.
Some of it could be classed as psychiatric but most of it concerns eating specific foods and having a healing attitude.

Where is the line drawn that the law can distinguish?
Will doctors be required to have two distinct licenses?

I can see the reason for such a law. It allows governmental control of the masses. It does protect people from the charlatans but steps on personal freedom. Just one more example of people being robbed of their personal choices.

I guess the next step will be to require licensing to have children as predicted by many science fiction stories.
Specifically, this law has positives and negatives but we must think about the precedents such laws set and how it opens us to other, more restrictive, laws in the future.

Interesting topic with potential for great discussion.
Thanx!

I totally missed all replies.
And I agree with you.
All these things have two sides, but we deserve the freedom to choose.
Over here health insurance doesn't go up because we do have many options for the alternative. The coverage for it just depends on the 'package' you choose. So if you have let's say basic, you also have less annual coverage for the alternative. And for a number of other things too.
If you go for top -which is more expensive- you do get more coverage for things including the alternative. So you can choose.

I used to have the one in between that happened to have good coverage, I could make it through the year with that. But then I swapped to collective via my benefit which offers advantages. Unfortunately then the coverage for the alternative is lower. It dropped from E450 to E200, meaning I usually had to pay for 2 treatments myself.
I stick with it as it has better dental coverage but it's a bit of fortune telling each year: what will I need more? And you don't know upfront, hihi.

Surprised you feel that way to be honest.
I don't know what 'getting licensed' means in the US really. Over here when you become a member of a professional organisation in the branch your clients will get insurance coverage. You have to pay for that membership each year, and it isn't cheap. But it guarantees the quality of the therapists and the profession, and I believe it also gives therapists legal help if a client is complaining.
So if you're a charlatan, you don't have any qualifications of the study either, and you cannot become a member of such an organisation.
But... NOT all who aren't a member are charlatans. Not over here anyways.

And getting a license... who decides whether you get that?
Over here it works as described above, but even professions like osteopathy are not officially recognised as a medical profession. So when we had lockdown they had to shut down shop.
It has been the same with physiotherapy for years, they had to fight real hard to get the label "medical profession" so during lockdown they could continue working.
Insanity...
Thousands of people were duped, including me.
And this label is not something you can just get by doing a test or something. They're fully qualified. It is decided by Big Pharma so at a high level. And Big Pharma wants to push out all therapies and healing methods that are helping millions worldwide, but they don't make a buck of it.

We've worked so hard to get the healing knowledge & wisdom from the ancients back, that was oftentimes way better than 'modern' Western medical stuff. If we're not careful and don't act we WILL lose that again.

Fact is, we need both. Most chronic issues benefit -or can be healed even- with the alternative. For acute stuff like a broken leg or heart attack we need Western science. It should go hand in hand.
And the only reason this isn't happening is because of Big Pharma.

Anyway, everyone has to make their own decisions. I'm all for maintaining both, and working towards having them cooperate. At this rate we're moving away from that. Back to how it was in the early-mid 20th century when "modern" doctors almost electrocuted mental health patients in the dungeons of an asylum, just because they could and thought they were smart. (some ppl DID get electrocuted btw because they pushed it too far).
And not saying that practice will come back, but the attitude behind it, "We are all-knowing and all-powerful." I find that very scary.

Here is a working link with the info on what is going on, and a number of therapist types that will get in trouble, and in the article a link to sign the petition if you want.

And again, it's not about how it works in America, but what they're doing in Massachusetts. If they get away with it, other states will likely follow suit. Duping thousands of people.
