everything is dependent upon people being basically good people -from there it's a matter of their understanding -which they will attempt to increase because they are basically good.

ideally, we want good cops and good citizens.

same is true for everything -if everyone is against everyone, the world implodes.

getting clearer & clearer.

in the Kim Potter trail, Timothy Gannon, her boss and former Brooklyn Center police chief - resigned.

in fact, instead of Police De-fund, people should hold the chiefs accountable, including demand for their resignations.

He resigned because the system is F'd up and he was getting pressure. Kim Potter had every right to shoot Daunte Wright. A 4200lb car can be just as deadly as any gun, clearly he put it in gear with no regards to anyone's safety. He also could of had a gun in the center console he was reaching for. It did not matter if Potter used a taser or a gun, she needed to do what she had to do to stop Daunte. The publics reaction and Black Lies Matter are the only reason she was tried and convicted. The jury will have their names released to the public, and they feared what would happen if she was set free. They are pushing to sentence her to 20 years in prison, while they have reduced Mohammed Noirs sentence from 12 1/2 years down to just 57 months meaning he will be eligible to be released any day now. Do people remember Mohammed Noir? He was the Minneapolis cop that reached in front of his partner and shot Justine Damon because he got "scared". Not sure if he was "scared" because she was white? Or because he felt threatened because she was a woman. She had nothing that could be considered a weapon, and he refused to say anything to anybody why he shot her until.his trial. It is all just a political game to show they are punishing white officers, and not holding black people accountable for their actions because they clearly know no better. When Damon was shot Minneapolis had a lesbian as the police chief, she was fired and replaced by a black police chief, now he is retiring so we will have to see what forms to there needs for the next check because it clearly has nothing to do with being qualified.

 We need to know more about developing this kind of pressure. May be taught in schools.

Note: In India, we have our own history / news of police brutalities and I'm beginning to believe that police reforms need to start from the top. My views on this case are solely from the videos I saw on YT and not on the trail. Also, let's back up, so that we can also find out how and who escalated the situation.

Somebody did not like the air freshener dangling from the rear view mirror and so the car was stopped. The patrol car was more on a training mission and Daunte's vehicle - freshener - made for a nice exercise.

As per Potter's bodycam:
Daunte had already got outside his car as per the sergeant's orders; had his hands across his back as part of submission to being handcuffed but the man's hands were long; like a ball player's and the sergeant was having difficulty holding and handcuffing.

It was at this moment Potter moved forwards and added new instructions to the sergeant; probably some cuss words because the sergeant looked surprised - all in the video.

It was also at this point, on overhearing Potter; that Daunte jerked free his hands from the sergeant's grip and slipped back to the driver's seat. (By this time, Daunte had already explained he was driving his mother's car - in fact he was talking to her on the cell phone to assure the officer it was her car - and so on.

The likelihood of a weapon in the glove compartment would have implicated his mother who was now on the cell phone waiting for her son to hand over the handset to the officer.
===

A trained police officer with 26 yrs of experience - is well aware that there may come a moment when she would have to erase a citizen / suspect who may compromise her to the authorities. In this case, the suspect had nearly got handcuffed and then broken free on hearing provocative words she had used - and these may now come out during an investigation / hearing.

A trained police officer who has the experience of working under pressure also knows how to camouflage her intent with clear spaced out words: 'Taser, taser, taser' - warning all her men to stand clear.

This also warned off the men to clear the path of the 4200lb car can be just as deadly as any gun,

All this while Potter was leveling the Glock.

What Potter's 26 yrs of experience did not prepare her for, was her bodycam view angle. In most cases, body cams are tilted towards ground and so end up taking pictures of a suspects shoes as he's been handcuffed.

Potter's bodycam was fitted at the right angle for best field view - so that the training assignment can be recorded / replayed. The MIC was muted when she gave instructions to the sergeant and then switched back on, when she warned 'Taser'.

Mohammed Noirs: Do people remember Mohammed Noir?

I have not studied Noir's case but makes one wonder how many such cases of unnecessary manslaughter by cops are covered up by the police chiefs as negligence - being committed by one of their own.

Daute Wright was pulled over not only for a dangling air freshener, but also expired licence tabs (registration). Things they commonly pull over people of any race for. The reason he was being handcuffed was not for simple traffic violations, but a warrant for failure to appear on a weapons violation. So there was a high probability for there to be weapons as he had a history of having weapons he was not supposed too. During the trial they agreed Kim Potter had the right to shoot Daute but they felt her negligent actions caused the death of Daute. Had she just said she yelled "taser, taser, taser" hoping another officer would taser him so she didn't have to shoot she would have been in the clear. Of coarse the most sensible thing clearly would of been just listen to the demands of the police and clear up his warrant as that was not just going to go away, not to mention the assaulting an officer and fleeing arrest he would have also been charged with, with his disregard to the law we are much better off without him considering the drastic increase of shootings we have seen, not by officers, but by these thugs that have no respect for society.

This woman has been WRONGED! She made a terrible mistake and was remorseful, even suicidal, immediately afterwards. All on tape and all heartfelt, raw, and sincere.

I've seen MANY videos of a driver accidentally putting their car in drive instead of reverse and plowing into a store. I've been driving for decades and have never done that and question how that can happen, but mistakes happen! Fatigue? Prescription drugs? Going through divorce/stressful time and the mind is just "off"? Who know, but it happens.

If you put your car in drive instead of reverse and accidentally killed someone, after your remorse/suicidal thoughts/tears, what would you feel should be YOUR sentence?

Never before have I felt moved to send a prisoner money or a visit but I have in her case. Her sentence is far far too much for what happened. Excellent career officer, zero racism in her past, gave her adult life to serving her community at great risk. She F'd up, yes. Big time. But there should be some leniency here for an accident vs. a racist act which this clearly was NOT.

To Mr. Guy,

Interesting.
D4F spells Daunte as Daute; like calling a guy with a last name of Quill .., as Kill.

Now you justify Potter's shootout as "putting a car on drive" and-- her remorse, heartfelt, raw and sincere as grounds to lighten her sentence. Why not? A pickaxe .., she mistook for her plastic toy.

It is ancient knowledge here in India that in moments of crisis, deep seated prejudices erupt. Racism, gender and so on; erupt. A black man when considered a dangerous threat; readily loses his features; he has no personality; just black. Chauvin's actions rose from prejudices he had kept in control till that one day when it broke lose.

Then there are moments of 'perceived crisis'; where the threat is not loss of one's life; but of one's prestige and place in society. Here again deep seated prejudices surface - they don't necessarily erupt and swamp but present themselves as a choice. The decision to kill and cover it under accident was one such spot on decision.

Again, my views are based solely on two separate bodycam evidences and not on the trial. The videos do not need careful analyses; just commonsense. The entire jury exhausted all options before arriving to the 'guilty' verdict.

For all it's worth, Potter may be left out on Probation after a year. It hardly matters. It does not bring Daunte to life.

1) Daunte Wright had an open warrant for his arrest related to an aggravated armed robbery attempt when he was killed according to court records.

2) Daunte Wright had previously been charged with first-degree aggravated robbery, fleeing from police, and possession of a handgun without a permit.

3) Daunte Wright was resisting arrest when he was killed.
4) Daunte Wright was a criminal, not an innocent boy scout.

Daunte Wright should be alive today and he isn't dead just because of the actions of Kimberly Potter, he is dead because of his own actions when he was shot. IMO Kimberly Potter rightly faced punishment for her actions, some "mistakes" are punishable. But it can't be ignored that if Duante Wright would have complied with the police he wouldn't have been shot. It also can't be ignored that Kimberly Potter had never fired her gun before that day while on patrol.

Duante Wright had determined his "place in society" with his OWN conduct in society....his "place in society" wasn't predetermined.
We all determine our place in society regardless of our race, religion, color etc.

My post was a response to you saying "Then there are moments of 'perceived crisis'; where the threat is not loss of one's life; but of one's prestige and place in society."

You were suggesting a persons "place in society" is predetermined by society and that determines the value of their life instead of the action of person, an individual, determining their place in society.
Your premise may be the case in India's caste system, which is largely still in place, where your place in society is predetermined at birth which is not the case in the United States.

Just because I my life doesn't revolve around posting daily on here it doesn't mean I've been on vacation.....or that my comments should be based on previous posts. Besides that I was in FACT responding to one of YOUR "finer points"....get it now????? whoa

BINGO! When did this country turn from personal responsibility for your life and actions to blaming others and victimhood? Our country is suffering big time because of it. Every criminal now is, for some bizarre reason, felt sorry for. I swear everything is upside down now and makes no sense whatsoever.
