Open My Hand

I reach out
grasping for the wind
in hopes of capturing
just an inkling of hope
to hold
as tightly as I possibly can
so that
I could believe
the impossible

That
I could breathe again
that
the nothingness
of the air
could be held
as tightly
as the love
that
was no longer there

I want to be foolish
but I know
that
should I open my hand
it will be as empty
as my arms
that
once held her
it's just
that
I need an inkling
of hope
