Whilst it translates to ice-cream, gelato is actually different to ice-cream as it is not made with full cream and produced at a lower temperature, which makes it different. B(Gelato is less creamy and not as frozen). I was referring to this difference in consistency... But, thank you Catherine for your answer.

Every country has a different nomenclature and production method. When I was little, gelato like you call it was made of milk, you put the ingredients in a machine and in 15 minutes you could serve it using a lever. Traditional gelato was made of cream, sometimes with butter, and always deep-frozen, served in the form of balls put into cups or cones with special spoons.
