You think? I'd say getting in a prostitute, cleaner, cook, therapist/coach to deal with your issues, secretary, surrogate mother to bear your children, a nanny, and companion, would be far more expensive.

While it lasts, there's really no difference. It's when things do NOT last that not being married makes things much easier and often cheaper.

I think the answer will be different for everyone. For example, none of my 3 daughters want to get married (or have kids), and I think that’s fine. For me the difference would be more symbolic. I would feel a sense of emotional security from someone making a huge commitment like that (assuming my partner takes marriage as seriously as I would).

To his point: He's right

To your point: That's why living together in a serious relationship makes the most sense for most men.

Having/wanting children, however, changes the stakes a bit for sure.
