Hope and the Blues

Sat alone
in the quiet
tickling the ivory
until something that sounded like the blues
filled the air

Cigar smoke
reached
for the sky
as bourbon
and too much time
kept me company

Note
after note
sweet as the dram in my glass
and as sorrowful
as the emptiness of my glass
capture winter
like a song
cold
cold
cold
memories
of you and I

Can't escape this rhythm
the night
right now
sings to me
like a thrill
that's gone
and I keep holding on
and hoping
I keep playing on
and hoping
for tomorrow's sunlight

Nice poem. Gotta love the Blues. Even when "the thrill is gone"-B.B. King. Blues Poems, have you created a new genre? Good stuff.
