I used to go to DQ but they now freeze all the soft serve in the morning (maybe just my location ?), so if you get a sundae they pull one out of the freezer frozen solid and put a topping on it and hand it to you, not sure how you can mess up soft serve ice cream so badly but they managed it.

On a somewhat different note the last time I went to DQ (It was really just for the chicken strip basket) I got a pineapple sundae and instead of being served a cup of soft serve ice cream I got a cup of frozen ICE cream and they just put regular chunks of pineapple on it and not crushed pineapple in syrup and just a few of those tiny dried pineapple chunks that are put on really cheap frozen pizzas,
it tasted like disappointment.


Also a note about DQ's ice cream, it only has 5% butter fat instead of a 20 to 25% so it has a harsh, non smooth, icey, non creamy texture.

Does DQ even understand that their whole gimmick is soft serve vanilla ice cream ?

Like most fast food places it seems like some location are either better or worse than others. My suggestion would be either talk to the manager of that location or file a complaint to their headquarters. Good luck.

Well good for you and now you know . It always helps to do research on them before you decide to eat there. On our local TV station we have something on the news called “Kitchen cops” where a reporter by the name of Andy goes and checks places around the city and does his inspection of the restaurant and gives his rating of those places and what certain violations he found there.
