For Hamas, a ceasefire meant an Israeli withdrawal from Gaza and the end of hostilities. For Israel and in particular Netanyahu, it meant a pause that allowed for the release of some or all of the surviving hostages, and the right to resume the killing and maiming afterwards.
BTW, Iran is a Muslim not Arab country.
